Spring is officially here, and I’m already looking forward to everything that summer has in store. From enjoying coffee on a porch to wineries to late-night bonfires, there are so many fun summer activities that can only truly be enjoyed during the warm weather months. And of course, these are all great opportunities to put together casual, cute summer outfits!

If you’re already looking forward to cute summer outfits like me, then you’re in luck. Below are 12 casual outfits updated for 2024. Cheers to another year of summer fun and chic looks!

1. linen trousers + racerback tank top + button-down shirt

casual cute summer outfit - white tank oxford button down linen trousers

Shop the Look

Linen trousers are a perfect summer staple piece, especially if you prefer to wear longer pants over shorts. Linen is a breathable and comfortable material for the summer heat, making it the perfect choice for summer activities.

This linen European summer-inspired look is perfect for an elevated take on summer fashion. Pair high-waisted linen trousers with a high-neck white tank, underneath an open button-down linen shirt. Add a leather brown belt for shape and contrast to your look. Accessorize with leather sandals and gold earrings, and you’re ready to go.

2. white long-sleeved tee + straight-leg jeans + veja sneakers

casual cute summer outfit - white long sleeved tee jeans baseball hat sneakers

Shop the Look

Cute and casual looks for summer don’t have to be complicated! This outfit is just about as simple as they come, but with the right styling and accessories, it can look put together and chic.

Start with a well-fitting white long t-shirt – and if your climate is too warm for long sleeves, you could easily swap this out for a short-sleeved version. Next, add a pair of straight-leg jeans. Finding the pair that fits you well with no holes or rips will ensure you can wear these throughout the year and as a part of a wide variety of outfits!

Finish by accessorizing with a baseball cap (an added bonus is the sun protection this provides), Veja sneakers, crew socks, and classic gold hoops.

3. vest top + wide-legged jeans + heels

casual cute summer outfits - linen vest wide leg jeans sandal heels

Shop the Look

Speaking of linen, this linen vest top is one of my favorite ways to switch out a classic tank top for something different. Not only is it lightweight, but it’s the perfect way to add a chic element to a casual summer look.

On the bottom, reach for your favorite pair of wide-legged blue jeans. Neutral accessories complete this easy but timeless look. A pair of leather sandals with a block heel adds height and lengthens your leg. Finish the style with chunky gold hoops, and a woven tote bag with black trim.

4. vest top + trouser shorts + fisherman sandals

casual cute summer outfits - vest top linen shorts fisherman sandals sunglasses

Shop the Look

If you’re looking to step up your shorts game for your summer wardrobe, dress shorts are the perfect way to do that. Not only are they comfortable, but details like the pleating on this pair give them an elevated appearance. Plus, they are comfortable due to the loose fit, and breathable material.

On top, try a striped vest top with gold buttons. Sweater vests like this are a versatile piece you can style year-round. This look is still casual enough for everyday looks, but offers a classic appearance if that’s your personal style. As for shoes, try a pair of fisherman sandals. These are a trending item, but are also timeless enough that you won’t feel as if they’re outdated already when next summer rolls around. Plus, they are breathable due to not being fully enclosed, which means they’re a great way to keep your feet cool in hot weather.

Finish the look with minimal jewelry to keep things casual, like this pair of stacked necklaces. A chic pair of sunglasses completes the outfit.

5. button-down shirt + tank top + pleated shorts

casual cute summer outfits - white tank top striped button down linen shorts

Shop the Look

This look reminds me of a classic East Coast summer. Whether you’re walking the beach or maybe your local farmer’s market, this is the perfect balance of put-together and effortless.

Start with a pair of dress shorts, like this white pair with a subtle pleat. Next, add a white tank on top, like this racerback version. The higher neckline offers plenty of coverage, while the sleeveless top will keep you cool. Accessorize with square gold earrings and a pair of strappy sandals. Tortoiseshell sunglasses finish the look.

6. striped tee + denim shorts + sandals + woven tote bag

casual cute summer outfits - striped tee denim shorts leather sandals woven tote

Shop the Look

If you love finding casual, cute summer outfits inspired by the French, this look will be right up your alley. This is the perfect outfit for almost any casual outing, and is based around the classic striped t-shirt.

Black and white stripes are almost a neutral in terms of how easy they are to pair with other items in your wardrobe – which makes this shirt the perfect addition to your capsule wardrobe.

Looking for free fashion guides to help build your capsule wardrobe? MCO has a resource for you that you can access with just your email.

This look next calls for a pair of denim shorts. Whether you prefer short shorts or a longer length, almost any pair will complement your top. In my experience, I find a high-rise, mid-length pair of shorts to be the most flattering – but it is totally up to your personal style. Finish the look with a pair of rectangular sunglasses, leather sandals, and a woven tote bag with leather details.

7. shirtdress + sunglasses + woven tote bag + sandals

casual cute summer outfits - shirtdress woven tote bag sunglasses sandals

Shop the Look

Looking for versatility in your casual, cute summer outfits? Try a shirtdress – it’s the perfect balance of business and casual wrapped up into one summer dress to take you from the office to a patio happy hour. Summer work outfits can be tricky, but this style offers enough coverage while also still being a cute piece to incorporate into casual summer outfits.

Depending on your personal style, this would be a great piece to choose in bright colors. Or, if you want something that has a balance of neutral and bright, this striped yellow dress from Everlane is a great choice.

Accessorize with a woven leather tote to fit all of your workplace necessities, as well as a pair of classic sunglasses for dining or enjoying a drink outdoors. Woven sandals would be a great solution for footwear, although if your office dress code only allows for closed-toe shoes, they could be easily swapped out for a pair of mules, or even loafers.

8. striped button-down + denim shorts + leather sandals

casual cute summer outfits - denim shorts leather tote bag leather sandals blue button down

Shop the Look

This next look is perfect if you like monochromatic outfits. Denim shorts complement the striped blue button-down, while small details like the lining of the pockets and hem on the shorts make the classic denim staple more interesting.

When in doubt, striped button-downs are always one of my favorite pieces to pull and style for casual summer outfits. They’re breathable for warm weather yet offer a great amount of coverage, and are effortless yet cool.

Finish the look with a pair of leather flat sandals, which are another piece I find myself reaching for again and again every summer. Choosing a pair that’s comfortable is key, and if you do your research and choose a quality pair, they’ll be more than worth the effort of investing a little bit more. A leather tote in a bucket bag style and tortoiseshell sunglasses complete the look.

9. white midi skirt + black tank top + ballet flats

casual cute summer outfits - black tank top white midi skirt woven crossbody bag ballet flats

Shop the Look

If you follow trends, then you’ve probably noticed that long white skirts are everywhere this season for spring and summer. Although this is certainly not a new piece in warm-weather fashion, I do love the versatility of this feminine piece. Plus, when an item is trending, it’s a great time to shop because there are so many different variations being offered by so many different brands!

This poplin version has a flattering midi length, with just enough volume without being too overwhelming. I love this piece for how light and airy it is, while still offering modesty if you prefer to leave your legs mostly covered.

Pair it with a black tank top or t-shirt for a cool and casual date night look. You can elevate it with black ballet flats, or your favorite pair of sandals. If you like to experiment a bit more with the “wrong shoe theory” (purposefully choosing an unexpected shoe for your look), then you could try a chunky pair of sneakers. A woven crossbody and minimalist gold jewelry complete the look.

10. striped long-sleeved tee + white t-shirt + denim midi skirt

casual cute summer outfits - striped tee white t-shirt denim midi-skirt

Shop the Look

Long denim skirts were everywhere this fall, and if you’re wondering how to style yours for spring and summer – you’re in luck. First, start with a plain white t-shirt. If your skirt has a slightly higher waist, you could tuck in the t-shirt or choose one that’s slightly cropped.

Next, tie a striped sweater or long-sleeved t-shirt over your shoulder for a statement piece. It offers an additional layer for when the temperature drops once the sun sets, but also acts as a chic way to accessorize with something other than jewelry.

Speaking of accessories, these are key to making this look really work. A gold bracelet watch offers an elevated touch, while a woven basket tote is a slightly more casual (yet classic) piece. Leather sandals and cat-eye sunglasses finish things off.

11. linen button-down + white jeans + white sneakers + baseball cap

casual cute summer outfits - blue button-down baseball cap white jeans white sneakers

Shop the Look

Baseball caps are one of my favorite ways to make any look more casual. For instance, without the hat, this look could be perfect for a summer work outfit. White jeans and a linen button-down are certainly appropriate for the office, but the addition of one accessory transforms the pairing into a completely different look.

Balance your accessories with a mixed-metal watch and a pair of classic white sneakers. A pair like this, with no logos or detailing, is one of my go-to sneakers for cute, casual summer outfits.

12. biker shorts + oversized sweatshirt + chunky sneakers

casual cute summer outfits - bike shorts baseball hat chunky sneakers oversized sweatshirt

Shop the Look

For many, biker shorts can be an intimidating item to style. They were for me at first, at least! But with the right pieces, they can be a great casual piece to reach for on relaxed summer days.

The key for me has been to style these shorts with an oversized top, like a graphic tee or sweatshirt. This offers a little more coverage on top of the tight shorts. Finding the right length of shorts is also important – I would suggest wearing an oversized piece when you try them on so that you can determine how much of the shorts you like to show underneath your top.

Lean into casual accessories like a baseball cap in bright colors and a pair of chunky sneakers. Gold or silver jewelry could complete the look, although you can’t go wrong with a slim pair of gold hoops.

Cool for the Summer

Whatever your personal style, I hope that you found a few looks you love for summer on this list! Summer style doesn’t have to be boring – there are still chic ways to layer and pair unexpected pieces to create timeless yet cool looks for the summer months. Casual, cute summer outfits can be just as exciting as any other season with a little bit of creativity.

As we gear up for the summer season, I’m more excited than usual to shop for some new classic pieces. After going to Paris this past fall and seeing the iconic French style in person, I have classic French outfits in mind while I’m choosing pieces to wear in the upcoming summer months. French girl style in the summer is unmatched! Their style is a great inspiration for ensembles that look as beautiful as they are comfortable and elevated.

With all of the lessons I learned from the streets in Paris in mind, I’ve put together 12 French summer outfits to hopefully help as you’re shopping the racks (or the Internet) to freshen up your closet for the upcoming season.

1. linen vest + wide-leg jeans + leather bag

french summer outfit - linen vest wide leg jeans leather bag sandals

vest | wide-leg jeans | sandals | bag | bracelet

A neutral color palette is a favorite of French women for its versatility, and the ability to mix and match pieces. Neutral colors will never go out of style, and make for a chic summer look.

Start off this neutral look with a linen vest. Not only does this vest act as a chic alternative to a basic tank, but it’s a great layering piece to transition through the seasons when layered over a short-sleeved or long-sleeved tee, or maybe even over a turtleneck in the winter months. Plus, linen is the perfect material for summer due to its thin fabric, and ability to help your body handle heat.

On the bottom, a pair of light wash jeans is the perfect accompaniment for this cool weekend look. Accessorize with leather details, like this minimalist tote, and sandals with a raffia detail. A gold bracelet is a finishing detail.

2. linen tank top + midi floral skirt + mary janes

french summer outfit - linen tank midi skirt basket tote mary jane heels

tank top | midi skirt | straw bag | mary janes | gold hoops

Speaking of neutral colors, you can’t go wrong with a classic black and white look. This look again calls for a linen top, this time in the form of a boat neck tank. This one from Banana Republic also features a fun detail of a button-up back. The light color and linen fabric mean this is the perfect style for especially hot days.

French girls love the midi skirt for their beauty and practicality. It offers the perfect amount of coverage for modesty and allows you to go about your day with enough coverage for an active schedule, while also allowing you to show off your favorite pair of shoes.

Transition your Mary Jane low heels from winter to summer with this look, with a block heel that makes them comfortable enough for walking. A woven basket bag and gold earrings complete the look.

3. floral top + flare jeans + straw bag + sunglasses

french summer outfit - floral top flare jeans woven sandals basket tote

top | jeans | sandals | straw bag | gold hoops | sunglasses

French summer style is all about easy looks that are comfortable but elevated. You don’t have to overthink it! When you’re putting your outfit together inspired by French fashion, don’t be afraid to mix textures and aesthetics to create something new.

Start this look with a floral top – this one features flirty details like a small v-neck and a flutter sleeve. On the bottom, try a pair of jeans with a cropped length. Accessorize with woven leather sandals, a straw bag, gold hoops, and a pair of chic sunglasses.

4. striped button-down + white pants + gold watch + sandals

french summer outfit - linen trousers oversized button-down shirt gold watch

shirt | pants | sandals | watch | sunglasses

When it comes to summer heat waves, loose-fitting clothes in light colors are the perfect way to create a modest look without overheating. Start this look with a pair of white pants – bonus points if they’re in a linen material or linen blend!

Next, pull out one of your oversized shirts. If you don’t have one, a blue and white striped button-down is one of my go-to’s for French girl summer style. This is the perfect layering piece to leave unbuttoned, tied over your shoulders, or worn with pants, shorts, or even a skirt.

Accessorize with timeless pieces like a gold watch from Breda, strappy sandals, a brown belt, and sunglasses.

5. straight-leg jeans + floral top + pearl earrings + espadrilles

french summer outfit - floral top straight leg jeans basket tote

top | straight-leg jeans | espadrilles | tote | earrings

Need an outfit for a summer Sunday brunch? This is the perfect look, inspired by the streets of Paris. Some of my favorite sights in the city limits were the ornately decorated cafes teeming with flowers, arched over the entrances, and decorating the already-stunning architecture in the City of Lights. Florals are the perfect way to pay homage to the beautiful flowers and gardens of France.

This linen-blend top with a balloon sleeve is a great statement piece. On the bottom, keep things simple with a pair of straight-leg jeans in a light or medium wash. Finish with details like a pair of espadrilles, a straw tote, and pearl earrings.

6. oxford shirt + light pants + flip flops + gold watch

french summer outfit - oxford shirt basket tote light jeans gold watch flip flops

shirt | pants | shoes | watch | tote | sunglasses

This look is another way of wearing oversized shirts like a French woman. Style this boxy Oxford button-down as part of a monochromatic outfit, with a pair of light pants or pair of jeans. Monochromatic looks with white blouses are another key pairing for chic summer outfits.

No Parisian summer style is complete without the woven tote bag, as natural fabrics are the perfect way to add an organic element to your look. Flip flops are another way to help beat the heat, and make this a more casual look. Accessorize with a gold bracelet watch, and a chic pair of sunglasses.

7. little black dress + straw hat + woven sandals

french summer outfit - little black dress straw hat woven sandals

dress | sandals | straw hat | sunglasses | earrings

Elevate your little black dress for a summer date night with a midi or maxi length. This style of dress looks great on all body types, and is the perfect foundation for layering pieces, too. Throw a button-up shirt, jean jacket, or cardigan over your shoulders for a chic look, like a French woman would. Hot summer days can quickly turn into cool nights, so this extra layer is always a good idea, especially if you’re dining outside.

Accessorize this look with a pair of dressy sandals, or maybe a pair of low heels. And if you do plan to sit out in the sun, a straw hat and sunglasses are the perfect, practical touches. Add gold hoops for a classic touch.

8. mini dress + gold hoops + woven crossbody bag + sandals

french summer outfit - yellow mini dress woven crossbody cognac leather sandals

dress | sandals | sunglasses | earrings | crossbody bag

Breathable fabrics are key during warmer months – especially in Europe, where air conditioning isn’t as common as in the United States. Linen and cotton in particular are two fabrics to search out when it comes to building a summer capsule wardrobe.

Looking for more pieces to build up your summer capsule wardrobe? My Chic Obsession has a free resource full of shopping lists and guides that you can access here.

This linen mini dress in a buttery yellow is an excellent piece for a subtle pop of color. A relaxed summer dress is the perfect choice for days when it’s especially warm, or if you want to elevate your look in an effortless way. Accessorize with thin gold hoops, a pair of sandals in cognac leather, a woven crossbody bag, and gold-rimmed sunglasses.

9. floral dress + gold hoops + canvas tote bag + heels

french summer outfit - floral midi dress canvas tote bag sandal heels

dress | heels | tote bag | earrings

No French summer outfit list would be complete without a breezy sundress, and this floral midi dress is the perfect choice. Whether you’re walking through an arboretum garden, antique shopping, or enjoying coffee with a friend, this floral dress will fit right in as your new summer staple.

When it comes to your bag, a canvas tote bag is a great choice for a day spent shopping, or maybe setting up a small picnic. Canvas totes were everywhere when we were checking out the most popular bags in Paris – and bonus points if the print features a French artist! Sandals with a low heel and thin hoops complete this look.

10. button-down shirt + tank top + linen pleated shorts

french summer outfit - sunglasses white tank top button down shirt linen shorts sandals

shorts | button-down | tank top | sandals | tote | sunglasses | earrings

A white shirt or racerback tank top is the foundation of this summer style. Layers are key, in linen (there’s a theme here, for sure!), for a breathable look. Swap out a pair of denim shorts for these pleated linen trousers. Next, adding a striped or solid oversized button-down will act as your next layer, left unbuttoned.

Accessorize this style with retro round sunglasses with gold rims, leather sandals, gold earrings, and a French basket tote.

11. linen tank + striped linen pants + leather sandals

french summer outfit - woven bag linen tank linen striped pants

tank top | striped pants | sandals | bag | earrings

If you love relaxed-fit trousers, you’ll love this next look. Adapt that look for summer with these striped linen pants. The vertical stripes help to elongate your legs by drawing the eye up and down, while the faded blue and white stripes are neutral enough to pair well with a variety of tops.

For this style, try a linen tank. You could also choose a style with sleeves if you prefer, but for warmer days, a sleeveless white top is always a good idea. Accessorize with a wicker shoulder bag, gold earrings, and leather sandals.

12. floral dress + gold hoops + ring + basket tote

french summer outfit - floral midi dress sandals woven tote bag gold jewelry

dress | tote bag | sandals | ring | earrings

This red-orange color is one of my favorites right now for spring and summer! The floral pattern on this dress is beautiful and subtle, and offers a great contrast between the shade of the dress and the blue flowers.

Accessories are the key to elevating this look, which makes it fitting to enjoy a glass of wine outside in the south of France. Summer dresses are so beautiful and fun, and you can take this look to the next level with gold jewelry, a woven tote bag (this one looks like it might fit a bottle of wine to go), and white sandals.

Set Your Sights on Summer

Summer will be here before we know it, and spring sales are a great time to pick up pieces that will have you extra excited for warmer weather to arrive! Whether you’re going on a vacation or enjoying summer at home, hopefully, these French summer outfits will help inspire you with a little Parisian fashion inspiration.

As we get older, I think it’s safe to say that most of us forgo paying as much attention to current trends and care more about looking put-together, classy, and dressing in our own style preferences. But when it comes to dressing classy in more casual settings, that can be easier said than done! Older women are so often relegated to certain styles, patterns, and colors when it comes to what’s shown in magazines, TV shows, and marketing. That’s why I’ve put together 14 classy, casual outfits for ladies over 50. These casual outfit ideas will have you feeling your best, no matter if it’s a special occasion or just everyday wear.

1. tunic top + white pants + mixed metal watch + woven mules

classy casual outfit for ladies over 50 - linen pants tunic top mixed metal watch woven slides

top | pants | mules | watch | hoops

A great pair of white pants is a spring and summer staple. No matter your preferred fit of pants, a pair in white is the perfect way to brighten up your favorite looks in warmer months. They’re also a great way to add contrast to your looks when paired with a bright color, or one in a darker shade.

Start this casual, chic look with your pair of white pants. These straight-leg pants are made with a stretch linen blend, meaning that not only will they be flattering, but they’ll be comfortable for wherever your day takes you. Whether your day involves a busy day at the office, taking care of grandkids, or spending a Saturday with friends, these will make sure you are chic but comfy the whole day long.

Next, add a popover tunic top. Tunic tops are a flattering piece for any body shape or body type and are the more casual sister of the classic button-down. For shoes, try this pair of woven mules. The woven material will help keep you cool even in the warmer summer months!

When it comes to casual yet classy looks, sometimes simple is the best way when it comes to accessorizing. Finish this look with gold hoops and a versatile mixed metal watch.

2. blazer + striped tee + wide-leg jeans + sneakers

classy casual outfit for ladies over 50 - striped tee oversized blazer wide leg jeans

sneakers | tote bag | jeans | striped tee | black blazer | sunglasses

If you’re ever in doubt about how to add a classy touch to a casual look, try a blazer! A longer, slightly oversized black blazer will be your best friend. The longer length will help elongate your body, whereas the ones that stop at your waist often end up dividing your proportions in two.

The base of this look is familiar to many of us. A striped short-sleeved tee is a capsule wardrobe staple, and a flattering pair of straight-leg or wide-leg denim jeans offer the perfect balance to your look.

Shopping List for Your Capsule Wardrobe: Need ideas of what to actually include in your capsule wardrobe? Whether you’re updating your closet for spring or starting from scratch, MCO has a free resource library you can access here!

A leather tote bag, sunglasses, and white sneakers complete the look that’s comfortable, chic, and casual for everyday wear.

3. white button-down + linen pants + woven slides

classy casual outfit for ladies over 50 - white button down pull on pants gold jewelry

top | linen pants | earrings | bangle | sandals

Linen pants are the perfect piece to create a classic look for a casual outing. Create a stylish look by pairing them with a more structured top, like an Oxford button-down shirt, to create balance in your outfit.

Where you can really elevate this look is in your accessories. A pair of gold hoops and a gold bangle will help to set your look apart. Jewelry is also an opportunity to bring your personal style into a classic outfit formula. Finish off the look with a pair of comfortable sandals.

4. white tee + button vest + skinny jeans + ballet flats

classy casual outfit for ladies over 50 - sunglasses sweater vest skinny jeans white t-shirt ballet flats

white tee | skinny jeans | ballet flats | sweater vest | sunglasses

A classic white tee starts this next look. One tip that I like to use when creating casual looks that are still classy is to start with an inspiration look on the more elevated side, and then add in more casual pieces to make it fitting for everyday wear.

For this style, start with the idea of an elegant, classic suit. You have your staple black vest and jacket, and a white button-down underneath. Break this look down by removing the jacket to focus on the vest, and swap out the button-down for a white tee.

Next, medium wash or dark wash denim skinny jeans pair well with this look to create a more casual spin of a classic suit look. Black ballet flats complete the style.

5. knit sweater + trench coat + straight-leg jeans + ballet flats

classy casual outfit for ladies over 50 - trench coat knit sweater jeans ballet flats

jeans | bag | flats | trench coat | sweater

Classy, casual outfits for ladies over 50 are the perfect opportunity to pair together pieces from your capsule wardrobe. Creating chic, tailored looks doesn’t have to be difficult – choosing well-fitting, elevated basics is a great way to create an outfit that you’ll feel confident in.

For this look, start with a pair of wide-legged or straight-leg jeans with no holes or rips. Next, a quality knit sweater, like this alpaca crew from Everlane, will pair well with your jeans. Everlane is a great place to shop for quality basics at an affordable price.

If you don’t have a trench coat in your closet, spring is the perfect time to add one to your wardrobe! They’re the perfect Parisian staple, and there are so many ways to style them. A structured bag acts as your pop of color in this look, and classic flats complete this outfit.

6. striped cardigan + white tee + black midi skirt + mary janes

classy casual outfit for ladies over 50 - midi skirt white tee striped cardigan tote bag

midi skirt | mary janes | white tee | striped cardigan | tote bag | earrings

Midi skirts are the perfect solution if you’re searching for an elevated piece that is as comfortable as it is flattering. They are typically slightly more casual than a maxi version, but offer more coverage than a mini.

The classy portion of this look is provided by the satin material of the skirt, while a white tee and striped cardigan act as the more casual elements. Gold square hoops, a black leather tote bag, and Mary Janes provide the perfect accompaniment for your base. This would also be a great look to go into the office!

7. linen barrel pants + denim jacket + t-shirt + white sneakers

classy casual outfit for ladies over 50 - denim jacket linen pants white tee sneakers

denim jacket | pants | sneakers | white tee

A denim jacket is a great way to complete a casual yet classy look in warmer months. It’s easy to take on and off, neutral enough to pair well with many colors and looks, and slightly structured while still being comfortable.

This is another look with a white tee as a base. The perfect white tee isn’t see-through, washes well, and acts as the perfect foundation for outfits year-round. Next, add a pair of linen pull-on barrel pants. Pull-on pants are comfortable and offer plenty of range of movement, and are the perfect “soft” element to balance the structured look of your denim jacket.

Clean white sneakers complete the look, perfect for those days when you’re on the go but still want to look put-together.

8. shirtdress + woven tote bag + sunglasses

classy casual outfit for ladies over 50 - linen shirtdress sunglasses straw tote

dress | sunglasses | sandals | woven tote

Your favorite little black dress doesn’t have to be reserved for formal occasions! In fact, I argue that everyone should consider having at least two little black dresses in their closet – one casual, and one elevated.

Choosing a little black dress in a shirt dress style is a great way to transition from work to play. Plus, this version has pockets, which is always a bonus. Accessories play a big role in this look, as the versatile piece can easily be dressed up or down. Leather slides or your favorite comfortable sandals, a woven tote bag, and tortoiseshell glasses are the perfect way to create the perfect classic summer outfit.

9. cardigan + skinny jeans + mule slides

classy casual outfit for ladies over 50 - red cardigan skinny jeans leather mules

cardigan | skinny jeans | mule slides

Don’t be afraid of bright colors when it comes to creating classy, casual outfits for ladies over 50. Adding a pop of a statement color, like the red of this cardigan, is a great way to bring your personal style into a casual look. Wear this cardigan as a buttoned top, or layer it over your favorite tee or striped top.

Next, add your favorite pair of skinny jeans and a pair of leather mule slides. If you prefer a looser fit of jeans, almost any style is interchangeable with this look!

10. knit crewneck + round sunglasses + wide-leg jeans + ballet flats

classy casual outfit for ladies over 50 - cashmere sweater jeans straw tote sunglasses

ballet flats | flare jeans | straw tote | crewneck sweater | sunglasses

Little details make all the difference when it comes to putting together the perfect casual look. For instance, the ribbing and slightly cropped fit of this cashmere sweater offers the perfect balance to a pair of high-waisted jeans, with a lined hem on the cuffs.

Complete the look with leather ballet flats with a bow detail, gold-rimmed sunglasses, and a straw tote.

11. collared shirt + white midi skirt + Adidas spezials

classy casual outfit for ladies over 50 - white midi skirt button down basket adidas spezials

sneakers | midi skirt | top | woven bag

Another great rule of thumb when it comes to putting together classy and casual looks is to try mixing aesthetics to create interest in your outfit. This combination plays with traditionally formal and athletic features to create balance.

First, start with a white midi skirt. This skirt offers lots of movement, while the length is flattering in terms of providing coverage while still allowing you to make a statement with your shoes. In this case, the shoes are the Adidas Spezials! This shoe is perfect for an active day, whether it’s walking around a farmer’s market, the city blocks, or maybe attending a sporting event.

Next, a blue button down with a frilled, rounded collar is the perfect way to add a bit of structure to this look. A woven basket bag is the finishing touch, whether it holds your favorite book, a snack, or your other daily essentials.

12. navy button-down + tank top + dress shorts + sandals

classy casual outfit for ladies over 50 - trouser linen shorts tank top button down

dress shorts | sandals | bag | tank top | button-down shirt

If you’re unsure of how to put together classy outfits with shorts, try a pair of trouser-style dress shorts. This linen pair will help you stay cool, while still achieving a sophisticated look. Next, a similar-colored tank top can be tucked in to elongate the shape of your body. Add a belt to further create a flattering form!

On top, try a navy button-down shirt. Depending on your comfort level (and the temperature) you could leave this open, or button it partially. For accessories, try a two-toned crossbody bag, and leather sandals to tie it all together.

13. flare jeans + collared sweater + square earrings + gold sandals

classy casual outfit for ladies over 50 - wide leg flare jeans popover sweater gold sandals

A cohesive metal choice can really tie together a casual look. Elevate this outfit by incorporating hints of gold throughout, which makes your choices look more intentional.

Knits in quality fabrics make all the difference. This soft sweater with gold buttons is the perfect way to make a statement while still being neutral. Pair it with flared pants to mix up the more typical styles of denim. You could also swap these out for boot-cut jeans to achieve a similar look.

Add gold woven sandals to make this look date night-ready. Vibrant hues like gold will set you apart from the crowd! Gold hoops continue the theme, and the square shape of these makes for a unique style.

14. lady jacket cardigan + trousers + sunglasses + flats

classy casual outfit for ladies over 50 - lady jacket cardigan wide leg pants tote bag

cardigan | mary janes | trousers (similar) | tote bag | sunglasses

A lady jacket is a timeless way to add a touch of sophistication to classy, casual outfits for over 50. Lady jackets come in all different styles, and in this instance, our lady jacket takes the form of a cozy cardigan. If you’re looking for an alternative to bold prints, stripes are a chic way to add a pattern to your outfit.

Next, swap out jeans for a pair of wide-legged trousers. These will elevate your look, while still being comfortable and practical. Khaki or white pants perfectly complement the colors of the sweater, while still going a long way in your capsule wardrobe due to their neutral colors.

Finish the look with Mary Janes, a leather tote bag, and tortoiseshell sunglasses.

Gone are the days of being limited to matching suit separates, pencil skirts, and pantyhose when it comes to workwear. Even if you still prefer to invest in classic office attire like these pieces, there are many ways that you can update the look of them with simple changes so that they’re fitting of modern business woman fashion.

Whether you prefer more casual attire or lean toward formal work outfits, women today want pieces that work for them and their personal style – we don’t want to all be expected to look the same! I’ve put together 14 outfits below that feature some tried and true workwear staples, mixed with some more unexpected pieces that you may not have considered trying before.

Modern Business Woman Fashion

1. cinched waist button-down + khaki pants + ballet flat

modern business woman fashion

button-down shirt | pants | shoes | earrings

When it comes to classic workwear pairings like button-down shirts and a pair of khaki pants, little changes can make this look fit a more modern work wardrobe, and your personal style.

First, try playing around with the fit and silhouette of classic pieces like a light blue button-down. Instead of long sleeves, try mixing it up by choosing a short-sleeved or sleeveless version, like the one above. This particular style also features slimming elements like a cinched waist, which creates a pleating effect. It’s a flattering difference that makes for a more feminine look rather than a typically boxy, oversized button-down shirt.

Next, when it comes to khaki pants, a boot-cut fit or straight-leg version isn’t always the most flattering when it comes to all body shapes. Try switching out these silhouettes for a slim fit or flared style. Think about your favorite pair of jeans, and then don’t be afraid to apply that to business casual styles like khaki pants.

You know what looks best on you when it comes to weekend wear, so don’t be afraid to reach for some of those same styles and apply them to your workwear as well. This pair is also stretchy, which will be more comfortable when you’re sitting down for long periods of time.

To finish this look, a pair of comfortable flats are the perfect choice. This style of shoe pairs well with almost any kind of dress pants, and closed-toe shoes are often required in office dress codes. Add a pair of classic gold earrings, and you’re ready to go.

2. knit shirt + flared trousers + silver earrings + mary jane flats

modern business woman fashion

shirt | pants | mary janes | tote bag | earrings

If your workplace leans towards a more business formal dress code, this look is perfect for you. Small touches will update the idea of a neutral shirt with black slacks.

For the lover of neutral colors, try updating your pieces by choosing different silhouettes and fabric combinations – like this knit t-shirt. This is the perfect way to add more interest to your looks, while also acting as a great way to transition pieces from season to season.

When it comes to slacks, try choosing an unexpected silhouette rather than a wide-leg trouser. This flared pair is slimming through your legs and widens at the bottom. The flared hem makes them a great style for a wide range of shoes. If you prefer a flat heel, these Mary Janes in patent leather are also great for transitional wear, while the shine on the leather offers an elevated detail.

Finish the look with a classic black tote to fit all of your workplace essentials, and silver carabiner earrings for a modern take on a classic hoop.

3. pleated midi skirt + button-down shirt + knit sweater + flats

modern business woman fashion

skirt | flats | sweater | button-down shirt | hoop earrings

When it comes to modernizing workplace attire, layering is another great solution. By trying new and unexpected pairings, you’re creating interesting looks with pieces that you may already have had and worn many times before.

For this monochromatic look, start with a pleated skirt in satin. The sheen on this skirt is an elegant way to start your outfit, while also making it appropriate for offices that may call for a more elevated dress code.

Next, add a white-button down shirt. Button-down shirts are the perfect piece to play off your statement pieces and act as a great layering item. If you live in a colder climate (or maybe work in a frigid office building), an alpaca hair or cashmere sweater will be your next layer. This softens the look and adds interest by bringing an additional texture into play.

Complete the look with accessories that play into the monochromatic color scheme. Ballet flats are a classic choice, and silver hoops will pair well with the neutral palette. If you prefer gold, that would be an easy change to make as well in order to tailor the outfit to your personal style.

4. shirtdress + bracelet + mule heels + ring

modern business woman fashion

shirtdress | ring | bracelet | mules

Here’s yet another way to put a modern twist on the classic button-down shirt. This creped shirtdress is a chic way to transition into spring and summer workwear. It also doubles as a great piece to wear on the weekend as well, when paired with sandals or more casual accessories.

Blue in this shade is perfect for someone who likes bright colors, but who also likes to stick to a capsule wardrobe when it comes to workpieces. It’s a colorful shade, but also acts as a neutral.

Speaking of shoes, this pair of mule heels is a great choice if you prefer shoes with a bit of height. Gold jewelry completes the look with an interlocking chain bracelet and a gold dome ring.

5. t-shirt + black blazer + wide-leg pants

modern business woman fashion

t-shirt | blazer | jeans | loafers | watch | earrings

With many workplaces now choosing to lean into a more casual dress code, it’s the perfect time to think about how more formal office attire can be translated into business casual or casual outfits.

For instance, take a classic black blazer – a staple piece of formal attire. To create a more casual outfit that incorporates your blazer, reach for a pair of light-wash or medium-wash wide-leg pants.

The wide-leg jean is a more modern take on classic denim and will complement the oversized fit of the blazer. Use a plain black t-shirt for your base, tucked into the jeans. Add a belt if that aligns with your personal style!

Accessorize with a chunky black leather loafer. The platform on this pair will help you appear taller, lengthening your legs even in the wider fit of the jeans. A mixed-metal watch and wide gold hoop earrings complete the cool, yet professional look.

6. t-shirt + denim jacket + midi skirt + tote bag + sandals

modern business woman fashion

skirt | sandals | tote bag | denim jacket | t-shirt

Speaking of a more casual dress code, here’s another way to style a plain black t-shirt for spring. This look would be perfect for a casual Friday, or maybe a workplace with a generally more casual atmosphere. Modern business woman fashion doesn’t always equate to business formal attire.

Start with your black t-shirt to begin this look. Next, find a patterned midi skirt, like this floral style. A midi skirt is the perfect way to add some femininity to your look, while still being appropriate for work due to its longer length. Add a denim jacket for another layer, and to act as another texture.

If your office allows for open-toed shoes, these leather sandals are a great choice. Then, bring that same shade of cognac leather back into your look with the details on this Longchamp tote – the perfect bag to go from work to weekend.

7. cardigan + sweater pants + gold earrings + flats

modern business woman fashion

pants | sweater | flats | earrings

Although sweatpants aren’t exactly workplace-approved, these sweater pants are a great way to achieve a comfortable look while looking chic doing it. The pleats on this pair of flared pants elevate the style to more closely resemble a trouser style of pants, and also help to elongate your legs by drawing the eye up and down. Plus, pants don’t have to be straight-leg and stiff in order to fit modern business woman fashion!

On top, a neutral cardigan with gold details is the perfect pairing. The gold buttons help elevate the piece, and the neutral colors help to ensure that you’ll get a lot of wear mixing and matching this sweater. You could also layer a white t-shirt underneath, if you prefer to style the cardigan with one button open on top, or maybe in the middle.

Tie gold back into your look with these droplet statement earrings, and finish the look with a practical but comfortable ballet flat.

8. flared pants + cardigan top + gold earrings + suede mule slides

modern business woman fashion

pants | mules | cardigan top | earrings

If you liked the last look, here’s another way to style a similar outfit for warmer weather. First, start with the short-sleeved cardigan top. The black and white stripes are a chic, classic pattern that will never go out of style, and the gold buttons are the perfect detail.

Next, these kick-flare pants are a great choice if you prefer flat shoes. The slightly shorter length ensures that you don’t need a pair of heels for them to fit right, and the vertical seam once again adds a flattering detail that will lengthen your legs. They’re also made from a soft, stretchy fabric – making them some of the best work pants on Everlane’s site!

Add another texture to the look with a pair of mule slides. They resemble sandals, except for the fact that they adhere to a closed-toe shoe dress code. Square gold earrings finish off the look.

9. button-down dress + turtleneck + mary jane flats + tights

modern business woman fashion

dress | mary janes | tights | turtleneck | laptop case

If you like the classic feel of a matching business suit set, here’s a way to update it for modern business woman fashion. Start with this button dress, which calls to mind a classic vest. It’s shorter in length, so try layering it with sheer tights to make it appropriate for a professional setting.

For your base, a cream turtleneck will offer a nice contrast in color while also ensuring this look is warm enough for cooler months. A patent-leather pair of Mary Jane flats will add a bit of shine to the look, and complement the nostalgia-inspired style.

Finally, a croc-embossed laptop cover is the perfect way to tote around your tech in style if you don’t have the need for an entire tote bag.

10. collared shirt + cropped trousers + gold earrings + loafers

modern business woman fashion

pants | loafers | shirt | earrings

Stick to a monochromatic, neutral color palette for effortlessly chic business attire. This cream-toned ensemble is comfortable yet classic, and would be a great choice for going to work, or working from a home office.

A pair of cropped slacks like these are a great way to highlight your footwear. They’re also a good idea in the warmer months when you’re choosing shoes that don’t necessarily require a pair of heavy socks underneath. The button detail near the waist is a fun accent that is reminiscent of maritime styles, and would also look great paired with a striped shirt for a summer aesthetic.

To stick to the cream color palette, this collared shirt is a perfect choice for a comfortable yet classic look. Add leather loafers, which bring the gold details back into your footwear. Double gold hoops complete the style.

11. shirtdress + floral earrings + woven bag + kitten heels

modern business woman fashion

shirtdress | kitten heels | bag | earrings

Spring is almost here, and this sage shirtdress is the perfect piece to blend your work wardrobe with your casual style. The color is perfect for warmer weather, and the belt offers a great way to add a flattering cinch to your midsection. This style is sleeveless, which makes it the perfect piece to add a cardigan to as well.

Accessories are an easy way to make this dress a more casual look, or on the flip side, more formal attire. For a work wardrobe take, add a pair of kitten heels with a closed toe. They give you the same elevated look as high heels but are more comfortable due to the shorter height.

Next, this textured tote bag is the perfect addition to fit everything you need to bring to the office. Finally, add a pair of floral earrings with a diamond center for the perfect subtle touch of spring.

12. blazer + mini dress + square earrings + loafers

modern business woman fashion

dress | blazer | loafers | watch | earrings

The best work clothes are often ones that can be mixed and matched many times, so that you can create new looks with the same pieces. For example, deconstructing women’s suits into standalone pieces is the perfect way to update the classic pantsuit for modern workwear.

For this look, take a classic blazer and pair it with something other than a matching pair of trousers – like this mini-shift dress. The dress pulls in a brown from the color palette of the blazer, which means that the blazer still becomes part of a coordinating look without matching perfectly.

Complete the look with a classic leather loafer, a mixed metal watch, and silver earrings. The mixed metal approach in your accessories is another way to add a modern twist to a classic style.

13. short-sleeved button-down shirt + chino pants + woven mules

modern business woman fashion

shirt | pants | woven mules | bracelet | earrings

Creating looks for modern business woman fashion also means that we have to take warmer weather into account! No one wants to sit in a stifling office in a turtleneck and blazer. When spring and summer roll around, fabric choices are key to making chic yet comfortable outfits work. Just by choosing a piece in a lighter, more breathable fabric, you can transform classic looks with minimal effort.

Linen is the perfect fabric for workwear. Although it might traditionally feel more synonymous with casual clothing, linen is light, breathable, and easy to wear. Plus, there are so many affordable women’s work clothes available in this fabric type. One of the best places to find reasonable, quality linen in Everlane. This short-sleeved button-down is made with 100% European flax linen, is under $100, and comes in four different solid colors.

Next, a pair of relaxed-fit chino pants will not only keep you cool, but also offer a way to incorporate classic khaki pants into your look to elevate your linen top. Speaking of elevating your look, gold jewelry is the best way to do just that with minimal effort. Complete your look with woven mules, which offer a sneaky way to wear sandals while still abiding by a dress code that calls for closed-toe shoes.

14. embroidered midi dress + hoops + tote bag + mule slides

modern business woman fashion

midi dress | tote bag | mule slides | hoops

I couldn’t finish out a guide to modern business woman fashion without talking about a midi shirtdress in classic white. This dress is perfect for summer, and features eyelet embroidery that adds a fun, interesting detail to a timeless silhouette. The bow at the waist instantly adds shape to the style, so that it fits your body type perfectly.

Leather tote bags arguably make for the best work bags (I’ve been using the same one for work every day for 7 years now). They hold up well, are easy to wipe down if dirty, and can hold everything from a laptop to a water bottle to an extra layer in case the office air conditioning is blasting that day.

Finish the look with woven mule slides, which add another fun texture to the style. Classic gold hoops round out your accessories for this easy, breezy workwear style.

Ready, Set, Work It

A modern work wardrobe doesn’t have to be revolutionary, and by no means does it entail throwing out all of your past pieces and starting from scratch. Oftentimes, “modernizing” looks is simply pairing classic pieces in new, unexpected ways.

Playing with layers and textures will keep your pieces looking fresh long after you’ve bought them. Plus, keeping up with the latest trends can often be costly – try starting with what you have, and then filling in the gaps of your wardrobe with pieces that you genuinely love. Hopefully this guide inspired you to do just that!

Parisian apartments seem to embody the best of both worlds when it comes to balancing design elements. The most inspirational photos (and real-life examples) of Parisian apartment/French apartment style I’ve seen have the perfect blend of antique and modern, elegant and cozy, unique and traditional elements.

Of course, there are plenty of different styles that are found within Parisian apartment aesthetics. Whether that be the grandeur of Versailles or a more contemporary style, there are plenty of ideas to be found that can be incorporated into your own home to bring a little bit of French apartment living to you, no matter where you live. Read on for some inspiration to help you bring the charm and elegance of a Parisian apartment into your own space!

1. Versailles Inspired Decor

When it comes to the different subsets of Parisian-inspired decor that you can find inspiration from, if you prefer an elegant, traditional style, then you’ll probably like elements on this Versailles-inspired mood board.

To achieve this look, you’ll want to curate a collection of ornate, classical pieces. In this case, searching for treasures in your local antique shops will be a great place to start.

Furniture

Gilded, ornate furniture comes to mind first when I think of Versailles-inspired design. This gold mirror will shine in any room, whether it’s utilized over a fireplace mantel, on a dresser, or in a sitting room. A large mirror such as this is also a strategic design choice, as mirrors help reflect the light in smaller rooms to make them appear larger.

Light fixtures are also a great way to bring the Versailles-inspired look into your home. Crystal chandeliers and moody candles offer soft, elegant lighting to any room, whether that be your bedroom, living room, or dining space. And if you have great natural light in your space, even better! Large windows and high ceilings are another marker of the palatial architectural style.

Although not every home will come with working, built-in marble fireplaces, luckily there are alternatives out there at an affordable price to achieve a similar look in your living space. For example, standalone fireplace mantels are widely available (even on Amazon, like the one below) and come in all shapes, sizes, and finishes.

Walls

When it comes to wall coverings, don’t be afraid of wallpaper to achieve the Versailles-inspired look. And if wallpaper isn’t your style, bold but soft colors will help to contribute to a similar atmosphere. Also, don’t forget details such as crown molding, chair rails, and ceiling medallions. These may seem small in the grand scheme of things, but they’ll go far when it comes to adding an ornate, maximalist look to your room.

Floors

If you’re analyzing real photos of the Palace of Versailles, you’ll notice that parquet flooring is particularly popular (I’ll touch on this in the next section). However, marble would also make for a great choice depending on the room you’re decorating. It offers the same sort of grandeur and might be more fitting than parquet when it comes to an area such as the kitchen or a bathroom.

2. Parisian Modern Decor

The modern Parisian apartment/French apartment style offers a beautiful balance of organic and inorganic elements, cold and warmth. When it comes to colors, this aesthetic tends to favor a clean base, such as white walls, and wooden floors. French style comes through in the layering of furniture, decor, and other details – from marble bookends and tables to gold frames and wall sconces.

Furniture

Paris apartments are full of a variety of fabrics and styles when it comes to furniture. Furniture sets are not typically found in French style, and you’ll often find pieces that complement rather than exactly match each other.

A statement couch is a popular choice to draw attention to a focal point in the living room of a French apartment. For instance, this green couch in a luxe fabric with wooden legs is a great example of a timeless piece that also acts as an anchor in your design.

As you look at the rest of your space, mixing textures is the perfect way to balance old and new, modern and traditional. An ornate, gold frame is the perfect way to balance the look of a sleek marble side table. Iron bookends, meanwhile, complement the look of soft white drapes, and a wooden coffee table.

Floors

Parquet floors are a staple in French homes. Parquet flooring is a type of wood flooring featuring distinctive, repetitive patterns. Historically this type of flooring was made by assembling it piece by piece, but now, most parquet floors come in tile form. From herringbone patterns to checkerboard to chevron, there’s a wide variety of styles to fit all kinds of tastes.

Besides wood, you might also consider flooring elements made of tile, or stone. These offer a balance to soft fabrics and furniture that you might use to decorate your space.

3. French Country Decor

French country style is the most “lived-in” style of the three subsets of French style. Markers of the French interiors include rustic comfort, soft patterns and hues, and unique, vintage accents. The traditional style balances decor items from a flea market with elevated pieces like crystal chandeliers or a quality coffee table.

Flooring

Warm, organic wood tones are the perfect way to set the foundation of your French country space. Whether you prefer a more traditional style of hardwood flooring or if you like the look of parquet floors, wood tones will help to balance out the other elements of this design.

And if you already have hardwood floors that are a little worn, don’t worry! The worn wood look is another staple of French country design, so no need to spend your entire budget on new ones, or refinishing them.

Walls

Soft colors are often a staple of French design and Parisian apartment/french apartment style. Whether that be muted blues, greens, or pinks, these colors are often found alongside warm neutrals.

Wallpaper is another popular choice when it comes to Parisian interior design. You’ll notice that even the wall coverings embody a sense of history and tell a story, sometimes in the very pattern or symbols found in the design.

Related: 7 Minimalist Wallpapers That Will Freshen Up Your Home

Decor

When you go to decorate with French country design in mind, vintage elements are a great place to start. Antiquing is a fun adventure in and of itself, and you can find great deals on all sorts of finds that otherwise might be very expensive if you were to buy them firsthand.

Some items to keep an eye out for would be ceramic pots and lamps, vintage vases and dishes, and furniture items like wooden side tables, benches, etc. Antique pieces offset the starkness of more modern finds.

Decor is also a great place to bring color to your space. Whether it’s in an ornate rug or in the fresh flowers that fill your vases, a pop of color will instantly add warmth and life to your space.

French country decor is also the perfect design aesthetic in which to bring in heirloom pieces that tell a story and are meaningful to you. Whether you display your mother’s apron or grandparent’s hutch, pieces with a sense of history only add to the Parisian style. They also add an important piece of you to the room!

Furniture

If you’re looking to invest in a furniture piece for your own home with some French flair, look for comfortable pieces that are as beautiful as they are practical. A cozy reading chair will never go out of style, and one in a pattern or print is the perfect way to bring a bit of your personality to the piece. A padded ottoman bench, meanwhile, is the perfect addition to a hallway or entryway to stop at to tie your shoes.

Bring French Style Into Your Own Home

You don’t have to live in a centuries-old building to achieve the look of a chic Parisian apartment. Whether you have a more contemporary style or traditional style, there is inspiration for you found in French interiors.

The lessons that I always take away from the Parisian apartment/French apartment style include: layer and curate your space like you would a gallery wall, search for secondhand treasures, and balance design elements like light and dark, hard and soft. I’ve started to incorporate these lessons into my own home decorating, and I love the results – hopefully, you will, too!

Even though we’re currently experiencing a “false spring” in the Midwest, I’m not putting away my winter office outfits just yet! The cold weather will be back before we know it, so I’m going to keep enjoying the extra warmth of my favorite sweaters, long skirts, and layering pieces.

Winter work outfits are some of my favorite professional looks as they’re the perfect way to mix and match textures, patterns, and styles. Read on for 13 winter outfits to ace a stylish look for your work setting – whether that’s at home or in the office.

1. lady jacket cardigan + navy sweater pants + leopard flats

winter office outfits

lady jacket cardigan | sweater pant | flats | gold earrings

Playing with color is the perfect way to add interest to your winter office outfits. Red and navy are a great pairing for cold weather as they’re deep and saturated – much like jewel tones, which are always especially popular at this time of year.

A lady jacket style cardigan is a classic piece and the perfect way to start this look. Next, these navy sweater pants are comfortable and chic, pulling the navy back in the details on the cardigan. Choose leopard print flats for a fun way to add a new pattern to the outfit, and finish the look with gold double hoop earrings.

2. satin blazer + white button down + tweed skirt + knee-high boots

winter office outfits

blazer | button down | skirt | boots | tights | earrings

Mixing fabric textures is the perfect way to showcase your personal style in winter outfits, as you have more layers to work with than warm weather looks. For this look, mix a tweed patterned skirt with a black satin blazer. Add a third texture with the black leather knee-high boots.

Keep your jewelry simple and chic with gold and silver studs, with a pair of tights for extra warmth during the cold weather months.

3. knit turtleneck + pleated midi skirt + knee-high boots

winter office outfits

turtleneck | pleated skirt | leather boots | moss turquoise ring | earrings

When in doubt, monochromatic looks are a great way to pull together a look that’s simultaneously effortless and chic. Even if the shades don’t match exactly, choosing shades of tan and cream will still create a cohesive look that brings some warmth to your winter office outfits.

Start this look with an oversized turtleneck. Add a pleated midi skirt for visual interest, paired with tall leather boots. If you want to add a little pop of color, try doing so with your jewelry – the moss green tones in this cocktail ring and the gold earrings are a subtle but fun way to bring in a new shade.

4. striped sweater + wide-legged jeans + ankle boots

winter office outfits

mockneck sweater | jeans | tote bag | ankle boots | watch

If your work setting is a little more casual when it comes to dress code, you might try incorporating wide-legged jeans into your winter wardrobe. If you do wear denim to the office, choose a pair with no holes or rips. Darker denim is also typically regarded as slightly more elevated, although this could depend on the exact pair of jeans.

Try the “sandwich method” to pull this look together. The sandwich method is simple: match your shoes to your top to create a cohesive style that feels satisfying to the eye. A chunky sweater like this one is perfect for colder weather, which you can pair with black ankle boots. A leather tote with unique stitching and a gold watch complete the outfit.

5. button-down shirt dress + bow heels + gold earrings

winter office outfits

shirt dress | bow heels | tote bag | gold studs

This button-down shirt dress is as flattering as it is chic, thanks to the vertical black and white stripes. The bow on this style is also a great feature, to help add shape to the long dress. Plus, the cuffed sleeves are a fun detail to add interest to this versatile piece!

Patent leather heels are the perfect addition, with a playful bow on the toe. A brown and black leather tote will hold your laptop and workplace essentials, and gold studs complete the look.

6. striped cardigan + knit pants + cap-t0ed ballet flats

winter office outfits

striped cardigan | sweater pants | cap-toed ballet flats | shopper

Black and white will never go out of style, and it’s the perfect color theory to base your winter work outfits around. Try starting your look with another variation of the lady jacket cardigan with black and white stripes. It will add a touch of elegance to any outfit!

Next, switch out your favorite pair of black trousers with a pair of white sweater pants. Also, if you work from home and need outfits that are as comfortable as they are stylish, these pants are just what you need. Finish the look with a cap-toed pair of ballet flats and a black shopper bag.

7. mini dress + camel coat + slingback heels

winter office outfits

knit dress | slingback heels | tights | camel coat

An all-black outfit is a polished look when it comes to workwear – especially in the wintertime. For this style, start with a knit dress with a polo collar. The button detail elevates this mini dress and prevents it from being too casual for the workplace. Knit dresses are a great idea for colder months as the fabric provides extra warmth.

Add a pair of sheer tights, sling-back heels, and a camel belted coat to complete one of your new favorite winter work outfits.

8. midi dress + mixed metal watch + Mary Janes

winter office outfits

midi dress | gray coat | Mary Jane ballet flats | mixed metal watch

Mornings are hard enough in the winter, and if I need to pick out what to wear quickly, grabbing a midi dress is always my go-to. This is another variation of the knit dress but provides extra length if you prefer a longer skirt, or your workplace calls for a stricter dress code. The black stitching provides additional visual interest to this piece, which is ready to grab and go on busy mornings.

Add a wool-blend coat to keep warm from winter weather. Finish the look with black Mary Jane flats, and a mixed metal watch.

9. button-front dress + duster cardigan + flat

winter office outfits

button-front dress | duster cardigan | flats | earrings

If you love the look of a sweater dress, this button-front midi dress is a great alternative. The vertical ribbing on the dress offers a slimming effect, as do the buttons running down the length of the piece.

For those who live in especially cold climates, a longline cardigan like this duster style will complement the fit of the dress. Add a pair of comfortable flats and simple gold earrings for a polished look perfect for the home or office.

10. black turtleneck + teddy coat + patterned midi skirt

winter office outfits

patterned skirt | teddy coat | Mary Jane heels | purse | turtleneck

One of my most worn pieces in the wintertime is a black turtleneck. It’s definitely the MVP in my capsule wardrobe collection because of how easy it is to pair with other pieces to create winter office outfits.

This turtleneck top is a great choice to pair with a statement piece, like this beautifully patterned midi skirt. Mary Jane heels complement the vintage feel of the skirt pattern, and a cream shopper bag creates the perfect balance in the color scheme. A teddy pair coat is a cozy piece you need to finish things off.

11. white frill button-down + satin trousers + loafers

winter office outfits

satin pants | white frill top | loafers | earrings

If you prefer spring’s cheery tones and bright colors, this look is for you. Pair a sleek pair of satin trousers in muted pink with a white ruffle top for a feminine yet classy outfit.

Pearl earrings are the perfect accessory for this playful look. A cream pair of loafers with a gold buckle detail complete the outfit.

12. sweater vest + cream turtleneck + plaid midi skirt

winter office outfits

plaid skirt | mule heels | crossbody bag | sweater vest | turtleneck

This next look embodies the “light academia aesthetic”. If you like to incorporate aesthetic trends into your looks, the light academia look calls to mind a bookish, modern Victorian vibe with a twist. Patterns like this plaid skirt, the sweater vest, and lighter, neutral colors are how you accomplish this particular vibe.

Leather accents like these mule slides and a crossbody bag with gold accents complete the look. Whether you work in an office or a library, this is an effortlessly cool, nostalgic style.

13. leopard skirt + three-quarter zip pullover + Mary Jane flats

winter office outfits

leopard skirt | Mary Jane flats | bucket bag | three quarter zip

If you follow trends, then you’ll know that leopard print is all over this season. However, at MCO, we believe this print is one that never goes out of style! Patterns like leopard print and stripes are classic ones that can operate as a neutral in your looks, or double as a statement piece.

Pair this leopard midi skirt with a three-quarter zip pullover to create a balance between the elevated look of the skirt and the more casual top. Add leather accents like the bucket bag in deep brown with a black patent Mary Jane to pull out colors from your skirt, and you have a chic look that is as timeless as it is trendy.

Workplace Looks Don’t Have To Be Boring

Even though winter office outfits might not immediately inspire excitement, hopefully, you found some new inspiration in this post to show you that you can still have fun in colder months with layering, patterns, and textures!

You don’t have to hide your personal style at the office – don’t be afraid to balance your favorite statement pieces with your workplace staples to create balanced, timeless looks.

It’s about this time each year that I start to feel like I’m in a slump with my wardrobe. The holidays are over, winter is in full swing, and some days it feels so much easier to reach for the same pieces again and again. However, just because we’re in between holidays and it may be gray outside doesn’t mean you can’t shine in a fun outfit and feel classy and confident – no matter if there’s a special occasion or not!

Read on below for 16 classy winter dresses outfits that will add a bit of glamour to your cold-weather looks. They’re perfect for a date night, a trip to the theater, drinks with the girls, or maybe even a candlelit dinner at home!

1. Emerald Green Slip Dress

classy winter dresses outfits

dress | coat | shoes | earrings

Jewel tones are the perfect look for winter months, and this emerald green number delivers. The longer length of this dress is perfect for cold weather, and a classic appearance.

Plus, it’s easy to use as a layering piece – if you’d like to add sleeves, wear a black or white turtleneck underneath. Or, pull out one of your chunky sweaters to wear on top, which will give this dress new life as a long skirt. This is also a way to give this dress a more casual appearance.

Though this dress doesn’t have sleeves, it’s the perfect opportunity to throw on an elegant overcoat to complete the look. As for jewelry, a simple pair of linked interlocking gold hoops make the perfect statement. Add a pair of slingback kitten heels with a closed toe for the finishing touch.

2. Monochrome Look in White

classy winter dresses outfits

dress | faux fur coat | heels | earrings

A monochrome look is one of the easiest ways to look put together and elevated. This dress in winter white features a classic silhouette and long sleeves that are perfect for cold days. The “cold shoulder” is the perfect flirty touch to the elegant look.

Go all in on the sophisticated, vintage-inspired fit by adding a faux fur coat. If you’re following the latest trend (old money looks, anyone?) you’ll fit right in with this pairing. Cap-toed slingback heels in white, with elegant gold and pearl earrings will complete the look.

3. Classic Little Black Dress

classy winter dresses outfits

dress | camel overcoat | two-toned ballet flats | pearl earrings

This midi skirt-length number is the perfect modest take on the little black dress. If you prefer a little more coverage than the typical mini dress, this is a great choice. This is another dress that features a classic silhouette. It tucks in slightly at the waist, offering a flattering fit for many body types. The high neckline offers more coverage as well, making it a great option to reach for when it comes to occasions that might call for a more modest look.

Cap-toed ballet flats and pearls are timeless accessories that will complement the style of this dress. This is a look that exudes the same kind of elegance that is reminiscent of many of Audrey Hepburn’s looks – just proving once again that this kind of look never goes out of style. A belted camel overcoat completes the outfit.

4. Long-Sleeved Satin Dress

classy winter dresses outfits

dress | silver heels | crystal earrings

This long-sleeve dress will be sure to turn heads when you’re going out! If you love minimal designs that pack a punch, this stunning piece is perfect for you. The bell sleeves offer a vintage flair, while the flowing, satin material would be the perfect choice for a night on the dance floor. This dress would also be a very comfortable choice with its looser fit – one that you won’t be dying to switch for pajamas at the end of the night.

Silver shoes are the perfect way to complement this dress without competing with it. Add a pair of crystal earrings, and you complete one of the most fun classy winter dresses outfits.

5. Romantic Red Dress

classy winter dresses outfits

dress | shoes | heart earrings

What better month to rock a red dress than February? This number is part of a more romantic take on classy winter dresses outfits. It’s also one of the more casual winter dresses on our list.

And even if it’s not Valentine’s Day, you can pay homage to the month of love by adding a pair of gold heart earrings. If you prefer a slightly lower neckline, this v-neck look is very flattering without being too revealing. Add a pair of nude block heels with an ankle strap for a comfortable fit.

6. Floral Statement Dress

classy winter dresses outfits

dress | tights | slingback heels | earrings

There’s just something about this dress that screams classic, elevated sophistication. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s essentially the Chanel packaging in dress form, from the floral appliques to the black-and-white color scheme! Either way, if you like to rock a mini dress, this is a unique, stunning way to do it.

To add a bit of coverage (and warmth for a cold winter day), add a pair of tights. You could choose a pair with a bit of sheerness to them, or a more opaque pair for a more modest appearance.

If your climate is especially cold, you might even consider purchasing a pair of fleece-lined leggings that offer the appearance of sheer tights. Slingback heels with a pointed toe help to lengthen the appearance of your legs for a flattering effect. Lastly, crystal and pearl statement earrings are the perfect finishing touch.

7. Satin Wrap-Style Dress

classy winter dresses outfits

dress | kitten heels | coat | bracelet

Speaking of color, try this style in a beautiful shade of burnt umber. This is perfect for those who like to wear warm colors. The satin material of this dress makes for a comfortable fit, with a flattering, elegant silhouette where the bow is tied around the waist. It would also easily blend into the category of fall dresses, making it one that would make for a great transitional piece between seasons.

Next, add a pair of burgundy heels if you want to continue the colorful look in your shoes. A kitten heel is a good idea when it comes to winter dressing, as the winter weather is often not conducive to wearing tall heels. Plus, a closed-toe shoe will keep you warmer than open-toed in colder climates. Complete the outfit with a long coat, and a gold bangle bracelet.

8. Blazer Dress

classy winter dresses outfits

blazer dress | knee-high boots | tights | earrings

If traditional dresses aren’t your style, a blazer dress is a great option for you. The blazer dress offers a fun, masculine edge to your classy winter dresses outfits. This structured piece is a unique take on workwear that is perfect for a night out, or maybe dinner with friends.

While a pair of tights and classic black pumps would look great with this dress, if you prefer a little bit more coverage since this is technically a mini dress, try knee-high boots. This pair of shiny leather boots adds a new texture to the monochrome look. Simple silver stud earrings finish the outfit and tie in the silver detail on the dress.

9. Button-Down Shirt Dress

classy winter dresses outfits

shirt dress | long coat | bag | croc-embossed leather boots

Speaking of workwear-inspired fits, here’s one dress that could take you from your day at the office to a date night out. This shirt dress is elevated with a draping effect at the waist, which also provides a flattering fit around your midsection.

A structured, long coat is the perfect layer to add to further add to the sophisticated look. Add a patent leather bag and croc-embossed ankle boots to introduce a few more textures to the look. And if you need a little extra warmth, a pair of tights will do the trick.

10. Fringe Dress

classy winter dresses outfits

fringe dress | ballet flats | earrings

Have a little fun with your little black dress by choosing one with fringe. This is the perfect piece if you’re looking to try out the jazz aesthetic this year. Layers of fringe like this call to mind the flapper era!

Keep the attention on your statement dress with simple accessories, like this pair of black ballet slipper flats and a pair of dangly silver earrings.

11. Ribbed Sweater Dress

classy winter dresses outfits

dress | trench coat | shoulder bag | leopard flats | neck scarf

The lover of sweater weather will love this cream ribbed sweater dress. This dress features long sleeves and a cozy fabric, and it’s casual enough to wear for a number of different occasions. It’s the perfect starting layer for your favorite winter accessories, like a black leather shoulder bag, leopard flats, and a classic trench coat.

For a French twist, add a silk neck scarf, like this one from Banana Republic. If there’s one thing we saw in French street style looks, scarves are a great way to add your individual taste to an outfit!

12. Scalloped Effect Dress

classy winter dresses outfits

dress | earrings | heels

This scalloped-effect dress is the perfect amount of shine to brighten up your winter look. It features a slightly-dropped waist, with a midi skirt. The classic silhouette would be a great choice to attend a wedding, or maybe a theater show.

Keep things simple by styling this outfit with kitten heels and emerald stud earrings, which will add the perfect pop of color to the look.

13. Draped Navy Dress

classy winter dresses outfits

dress | white pumps | square gold earrings

Navy blue is another stunning shade to include in your classy winter dresses outfits. The draping on this dress is not only a flattering style but also a look old-world style glamour that will elevate your look.

This long-sleeve dress will never go out of fashion and is the perfect piece to pull out for all of your cold-weather special occasions. Whether you’re headed to a nice restaurant for date night or a winter wedding, this is an easy dress to accessorize for many different types of venues.

Complete the look with a timeless white pump, and rectangular gold earrings that offer a structured contrast to the organic draping of the dress.

14. Elegant Strapless Dress

classy winter dresses outfits

strapless dress | floral choker necklace | slingback heels | feather bag

This daring take on the little black dress is the perfect way to make a statement with your outfit, even during the colder months. The longer length of the skirt on this dress helps to balance out the strapless top, and the classic silhouette makes this a timeless piece for your classy winter dresses outfits.

Because this is a simpler style of dress, add flair to it with your accessories by having fun with a floral choker necklace and a feathered bag. I love this bag because it’s just as much of a statement as a unique clutch, but offers more practicality in that it is easier to access what’s inside, and can hold more than a small, hard clutch might. Slingback heels complete the look.

15. Silver Maxi Dress

classy winter dresses outfits

dress | heels | hoop earrings

Shine in silver with this maxi dress. The metallic threads of this dress will have you feeling your sparkly dress, even if the weather outside is dull and dreary. The long sleeves are perfect for cold weather, while the silver color elevates the ribbed texture.

Add a pop of color to the fun look with these green heels. These are the perfect shoes if you’re not ready to let go of the bow trend (I know I’m not) and would also make for a great shoe come Christmas next year. Simple silver hoops finish out the style.

16. One-Shoulder Mini Dress

classy winter dresses outfits

one-shoulder cape dress | bangle | earrings | ankle boots

For occasions where a mini dress might be an appropriate choice, this is an elegant style. If you’re torn between a strapless piece and long sleeves, this is the perfect dress for you! The draping on this dress is an elegant touch, and the long sleeve is the perfect way to add a bit more coverage to the mini skirt style.

If you’d like to take a slightly more casual approach to this look, cream ankle boots, a mixed metal bracelet, and chunky gold hoops are the perfect accessories.

Classic Winter Weather Looks

Don’t get stuck in a winter wardrobe rut this year! Don’t be afraid to break out your fun, sparkly best – even though the holidays are behind us. And if you’re looking to add something fun to your collection this year, hopefully, one of the pieces above caught your eye. Whatever the occasion, don’t be afraid to shine this winter and have fun getting dressed in your best winter dresses that will be sure to turn heads.

Does the idea of “French fashion” seem overwhelming when it comes to applying the French girl style to your own wardrobe? Well, luckily for you, you can recreate 20 classic French style outfits with wardrobe essentials you probably already have in your closet. With a little flexibility, you can take inspiration from the looks below to put together classic French outfits that would seamlessly blend in on the streets of Paris.

1. striped button down + jeans + mary jane flats

classic french outfits

button down | jeans | mary jane flats | earrings | socks | belt

Elevate your weekend or casual Friday style like the French girls do by using classic wardrobe essentials with unique details, like the frill on these ankle socks or the rounded collar of this button-down shirt.

Stripes are an easy way to emulate Parisian style, and when designed vertically, they offer a slimming effect as well. Pair the piece with skinny jeans or straight jeans, with no holes or rips.

Next, match your belt to your shoes – like a black belt with this pair of Mary Jane flats. These shoes offer a fun, nostalgic look to the style. Finish the outfit with minimalist jewelry, like these gold and pearl earrings.

2. striped turtleneck + black pants + loafers

classic french outfits

striped turtleneck | loafers | pants | leather bag | sunglasses

Speaking of a striped shirt, here’s another great way to wear one paired with classic pieces you might already own. The fun detail here is the slightly ruched stitching on the shoulders, which adds a unique touch to the staple striped turtleneck.

Pair it with a relaxed pair of black trousers, making this look work-appropriate. Add a black leather crossbody bag, your favorite pair of loafers, and your favorite pair of sunglasses to complete the outfit.

3. crewneck sweater + white pants + trench coat + ballet flats

classic french outfits

sweater | pants | ballet flats (similar) | trench coat | earrings | purse

This look is straight from the streets of Paris. Parisian women are not afraid to sport white after Labor Day, and you shouldn’t be either! Pair your favorite white jeans or trousers with other neutral pieces for a chic look for work or play.

Dress up the camel sweater and pants with a trench coat – not only is it an ideal piece for your capsule wardrobe, but it’s the perfect layer to wear from fall to spring. Add a chic black shoulder bag and cap-toed flats (or some with a small heel) that are reminiscent of the iconic Chanel pair.

4. v-neck sweater + white tee + wide-legged jeans + sambas

classic french outfits

t-shirt | sweater | sneakers | jeans | purse

French girl style isn’t limited to office-ready looks. For more casual attire, a simple t-shirt goes a long way. Layer your favorite plain white shirt with a v-neck sweater for an easy way to create an eye-catching contrast in the top half of your look. Add a pair of wide-legged jeans for an updated version of today’s trending denim.

Finish the look with a sleek black leather shoulder bag in a rounded shape. As for footwear, we spotted Adidas Sambas all over the streets of Paris. Not only are they a fun take on the classic white tennis shoe, but they’re comfortable for logging miles of walking around the city. This look is the perfect way to elevate the “athleisure” that is more popular in American style.

5. plaid blazer + pleated skirt + knee high boots

classic french outfits

blazer | pleated skirt | knee high boots | purse | belt

A French woman’s wardrobe isn’t complete without an oversized blazer. And yours shouldn’t be either! This piece is among the timeless classics for a reason. A neutral, plaid blazer like this one will soon be one of your favorite blazers as it’s versatile enough to pair well with your capsule wardrobe, but can also act as a great statement piece for a unique style.

To continue building an academia-inspired look, add a pleated midi skirt, pulling out one of the colors of the blazer. Finish the look with neutral accessories in varying materials and textures like suede knee-high boots, a brown leather bag with gold details, and a classic belt.

6. red cardigan + dark jeans + leopard print flats

classic french outfits

cardigan | flats | jeans | necklace | belt

French girls love a pop of color, and this bright red is not only trending, but the perfect way to perk up your winter looks. Start with a cozy button-up cardigan, paired with straight jeans.

And if you’re looking to incorporate a statement shoe, try this pair of leopard print “smoking slippers”. Polish off the style with a sleek black leather belt, and a simple gold necklace.

7. lady jacket cardigan + white button down + khaki pants + ballet flats

classic french outfits

lady jacket | button down | pants | flats | earrings

If you want to add visual interest and contrast to your favorite cardigan and trouser pants, try layering a white button-down shirt underneath. The pop of white will draw your eye, and instantly make the look more intentional and put together. The same concept is true for adding a white t-shirt underneath your sweater.

Finish the look with a chic pair of ballet flats, and simple gold hoops. This would be a great look for the office, or even just an elevated style for a day out and about.

8. overcoat + little black dress + polka dot tights + ballet flats

classic french outfits

overcoat | tights | dress | flats | quilted bag

For colder months, dress up your little black dress with a chic overcoat. The neutral color of this one will ensure it pairs well with whatever you’re wearing underneath, and the gold buttons elevate the look with a subtle metallic detail.

When it comes to basics, paying close attention to the quality of materials and the tailoring will go far. Choosing more structured pieces will help with this, or pieces that are a majority fabric of wool or cotton.

Add another point of interest to your look with polka dot tights (these are said to be a trending item in the upcoming year, if you keep an eye on trends!). Finish the perfect dinner look with black ballet flats and a quilted shoulder bag.

9. velvet blazer + scarf + plaid pants + ankle boots

classic french outfits

boots | pants | tote bag | velvet blazer | white shirt | scarf

If you love incorporating new and interesting materials into your classic style, try velvet for a timeless and elegant statement piece. Dress up a plain white t-shirt with plaid trousers, a velvet blazer, and neutral accessories.

To emulate the classic French style, don’t forget to add a scarf! It’s the perfect alternative to your favorite necklace, especially in the winter months. Complete the look with ankle boots and a black leather tote bag that will be perfect for holding your office necessities.

10. green sweater + baseball cap + mixed metal watch + mini skirt

classic french outfits

green sambas | tights | sweater | watch | mini skirt | hat

If your 2024 resolution is to start adding more color to your wardrobe, create an effortless look by choosing one color to act as your accent. For this casual look, timeless pieces like a black mini skirt, black tights, and white sneakers prevent the style from becoming too trendy. Plus, the Samba sneakers pull the green back into the look within the stripes of the shoe.

Elevate bold colors with your styling, and addition of accessories like a mixed metal watch, and a logoless khaki hat.

11. white button down + flared jeans + basket weave tote

classic french outfits

button down | flared jeans | heels | woven tote | earrings

There are endless different ways to style a white button-down shirt, and endless styles of them to choose from. To elevate the piece, try choosing one with more structure, or unique details like this sleeve detail and length. You’ll never regret this must-have in French-girl style that can take you through all four seasons.

Take this look from day to night with flared jeans, sling-back heels, gold earrings, and a woven tote.

12. leather jacket + white tee + black jeans + veja sneakers

classic french outfits

leather jacket | black jeans | white tee | sunglasses | veja sneakers

What capsule wardrobe is complete without a leather jacket? The great thing about this piece is that it can be styled to fit your personality. Whether you prefer a more casual, slightly edgier look like the one above, or something more feminine like when it’s paired with a dress or skirt, a leather jacket is a fun statement piece that is perfect for a night out.

Start this effortless look with white sneakers, like this Veja pair. Next, add a pair of black jeans – a wider fit is perfect for this aesthetic. Add a long-sleeved white shirt, your leather jacket, and a pair of sunglasses for a cool, easy style.

13. olive turtleneck + pleated midi skirt + silk neck scarf + overcoat

classic french outfits

turtleneck | pleated skirt | knee high boots | earrings | scarf | coat

If one thing’s for sure, it’s that monochromatic looks will never go out of style. For this French girl-approved ensemble, start with a midi pleated skirt, and a turtleneck in a similar or identical color.

Use the sandwich theory to match your top (a black overcoat) with your shoes (a knee-high black boot). Top off the look with a French girl-approved silk scarf in an interesting pattern, and minimalist gold earrings.

14. blue sweater + scarf + canvas tote + veja sneakers

classic french outfits

sweater | tote bag | jeans | veja sneakers | socks | scarf

If you can’t beat the winter blues, join them! Start your look with a pop of color in a blue sweater. The lighter shade will ensure that this piece will take you effortlessly through your spring transitional outfits as well. Add a pair of wide-legged jeans in a light wash, a canvas tote bag, a cozy scarf, Veja sneakers, and ankle socks.

Canvas tote bags were a must-have on the shoulders of Parisian women that we spotted on our trip this fall. Wondering what other bags French girls were sporting? More here: A Guide to the Most Popular Handbag Styles in Paris.

15. rosette top + wide-legged trousers + mary jane heels

classic french outfits

rosette top | trousers | hoop earrings | mary jane heels

Sometimes it’s all in the details if you’re looking to take your look from ordinary to extraordinary. An eye for these details, whether it’s the tailoring, the fabric, or the pattern, will set you apart.

High-quality pieces don’t have to be expensive. They can be timeless classics that fit your personality, with little additions that make them a piece you’ll reach for time and time again.

Let’s take this halter top with a rosette detail. If you love florals but are looking for a way to incorporate them into your look in a unique way, this is the perfect alternative.

The black and white top is effortless elegance when paired with wide-legged trousers, and a small heel. Add silver earrings, and you have the perfect recipe for a holiday party or a dinner date.

16. pleated skirt + oxford shirt + knit sweater + chunky loafers

classic french outfits

pleated skirt | loafers | tights | sweater | button down | headband

Pleated skirts were all over Paris. Whether you prefer a mini skirt version or the midi version mentioned earlier in this post, they can be a great way to add interest to your look.

The academia aesthetic lovers will love this pairing with a chunky loafer, tights, a white button-down shirt, a layered crewneck sweater, and a headband.

It’s the perfect style for a day spent wandering a museum, sipping a hot coffee, or perusing your local bookstore.

17. white oxford shirt + pleated shorts + Chanel two-tone flats

classic french outfits

oxford shirt | pleated shorts | ballet flats | belt | earrings

Before we know it, warmer weather will return. Wondering how to transition a white button-down for spring and summer looks? Keep the elevated feel by pairing it with dress shorts, like this pleated pair.

Add a leather belt, and you have a flattering, yet cool outfit. Finish the look with cap-toed flats (whether you choose a pair of Chanel lookalikes or splurge for the real deal) and minimalist gold earrings.

18. Breton stripes shirt + flared jeans + trench coat + mule slides

classic french outfits

striped shirt | jeans | mule slides | trench coat | earrings | purse

There’s a reason we associate Breton stripes like these with boating and nautical-inspired aesthetics – they were originally worn by sailors to ensure they could be easily spotted in the water! There are also plenty of associations of the pattern with the French girl aesthetic.

You’ll be ready to walk the streets of Paris when you pair this striped shirt with flared or wide-legged jeans, mule slides, and a timeless trench. Finish the outfit with gold and pearl earrings for sophisticated yet minimal jewelry, and a black leather handbag.

19. denim shirt + white jeans + silk neck scarf + cowgirl boots

classic french outfits

denim shirt | white jeans | cowboy boots | neck scarf

The Western aesthetic was all over the streets of Paris and the boutiques we shopped this fall. It was like a little surprising piece of home that I hadn’t expected to see in the City of Lights, but it was fun to see how Parisian women were putting their own spin on the trend.

To ease into the aesthetic, pair tall cowboy boots, white pants, a denim shirt, and a neck scarf for a Parisian flair on the traditional American style.

20. oversized blazer + boatneck shirt + jeans + ballet flats

classic french outfits

oversized blazer | jeans | boatneck tee | ballet flats | sunglasses

One of the first things that I noticed appearing in French fashion over and over again was the blazer! Whether it was more fitted or oversized, had many buttons or one, patterned or solid, casual or elevated, the blazer was a French girl staple that we saw again and again on the streets of Paris in classic French outfits.

It makes sense – blazers work for all body types, and any age of women. They can be incorporated into a more casual look by adding a baseball cap and leggings or a pair of jeans, or elevated for work with trousers or chinos. I have to admit – before our trip to Paris this fall, I didn’t know much about Goyard. I may have heard the name once or twice, but I wasn’t familiar with their designs, or their history in the French city. There are so many iconic luxury brands that have come out of France – it’s difficult to get to know them all! However, after seeing Carolyn’s Goyard tote – and just how much it fit for a busy day walking around Paris – I was intrigued. Not only is it a chic piece that is the perfect touch to finish off any look, but it is truly worth its weight (and all that it holds) in gold.

History

The story of Goyard bags can be traced back to 1792 when Pierre-François Martin created Maison Martin (Maison means “house” in French) – specializing in box-making, trunk-making, and packing.

It turns out he was ahead of time when it came to skilled artisans – the 19th century would bring a boom in demand for these types of products. And Maison Martin had something special, honing his craft on the delicate art of garment folding and packing.

Fast forward to 1853, when talented apprentice François Goyard took over the business and renamed it “Maison Goyard.” And if you’re wondering about how the iconic Goyard bag print (or canvas) came about, that’s thanks to Francois’ son, Edmond Goyard – also known by the brand as “Edmond Goyard the Innovator.”

When he took over in 1885, he took Goyard international by creating the first ads for the brand, participating in World Expos, and opening branches and trade offices around the world.

However, it wasn’t until 1892 that Edmond created the iconic Goyardine canvas pattern that references the log drives conducted by his ancestors in the shape of a Y – the central letter in the Goyard family name.

The Products

goyard in paris

Goyard has a wide selection of products that you can browse on its online catalogue. Going back to their roots, Goyard still offers luggage and trunks. And if you’re looking for everyday pieces, they have a wide selection of bags, wallets, and other small leather goods, bracelets, and even textiles, like scarves.

Plus, attention to all of my fellow pet parents out there – they also carry pet accessories, so your dog can be the best-dressed pooch on the block.

Whether you’re looking for tote bags or small trunks, Goyard products won’t disappoint when it comes to craftsmanship and timeless designs.

The Totes

goyard in paris

The Goyard Anjou PM and Saint Louis GM Bag are perhaps the most recognizable pieces that the designer produces. This makes sense to me – they’re perfect for taking on a long flight, a weekend trip, or even just a day out and about.

They can fit everything from your laptop to overnight clothes and are a practical choice if you’re looking to invest in a designer bag.

The most iconic Goyard handbag may be their St. Louis tote. The Saint Louis GM bag is made with Goyardine canvas (a special mix of linen and cotton fabric), is extremely light, and is completely reversible.

It also features a removable inside pocket, which you can attach to one of the handles. This style measures 13.3 inches x 7.8 inches x 15.7 inches and comes in a great selection of classic colors.

The Goyard Anjou PM Bag is the little brother to the Saint Louis GM bag (you can also find the Saint Louis a smaller size, called the PM version). It’s slightly smaller in size: 11 inches x 5.9 inches x 18.5 inches.

If you’re looking for an everyday bag, this may be a better choice than its older brother. Goyard lines the bag with the Goyardine and constructs it with a leather exterior.

Where to Shop

If you’re looking to purchase a Goyard piece of your own, you don’t have to go all the way to Paris to get it! There are six Goyard boutiques here in the United States: San Francisco, Beverly Hills, Dallas, Miami, Chicago, and New York City.

But of course, there are benefits to visiting one of their Paris locations (besides the excuse to book your flight to France, of course). With the VAT refund and the euro-to-dollar conversion, you could very well end up saving hundreds on your bag.

These are situational as the conversion rate fluctuates, so you might want to do your research prior to your trip. But chances are, you’ll end up saving on your Goyard purchase if you buy on Rue Saint-Honoré rather than Rodeo Drive or Fifth Avenue.

A caution to you however if you’re shopping in Paris – whenever we passed by one of the Goyard boutiques, there always seemed to be a long line outside the store.

Consider arriving early, or make sure to slot out plenty of time in your day if you don’t mind waiting in line. Or if you don’t want to spend any part of your trip in line, consider visiting the smaller boutique front located in Printemps, which didn’t appear to be as crowded.

Buying Pre-Owned Goyard Bags

goyard in paris

If you’re not someone who needs to buy new, there are plenty of options out there to purchase verified, authenticated luxury bags. For instance, Fashionphile is a great site to shop for pre-loved designer pieces from a wide variety of brands, including Goyard.

Bags submitted to Fashionphile for resell are verified to be real by two qualified authenticators who specialize in that designer. And if you’re not satisfied with your piece for whatever reason, you can return it for a full refund within the first 15 days. If you look elsewhere when buying used, make sure to do your research – there are plenty of sites out there that are selling counterfeit versions.

There are also a variety of conditions that are available for purchase, so depending on what you’re looking for, you can find a range of price points as well. Buying pre-loved items can be a sustainable, cost-effective way to acquire your dream bag at a fraction of the cost.

Now that You Know Goyard

Brands like Goyard with such a rich history are still around today and are in such high demand because of how they prioritize the quality of their products and the needs of their customers. However, all that to say is that you don’t need to purchase designer to find well-made products for your wardrobe!

Whether you’re shopping online or in person, pay close attention to the materials that are used. If you invest in quality materials, your pieces will last much longer – whether they’re considered “designer” or not.

And if you’re looking to purchase designer, consider purchasing pre-loved pieces for a sustainable, more affordable alternative. It adds to the thrill of the hunt!

When searching for the most popular handbag in Paris, we had our work cut out for us. There was a wide variety of styles and brands, both from French handbag designers and others, but they all had a few things in common – they were functional, beautiful, and well-crafted.

Although we didn’t conclude that one particular handbag was more popular than all the rest, certain luxury brands and tote bags did stand out after seeing them worn by multiple French women (and men). Read on for a list of the 27 best handbag styles and brands that we spotted in France to bring a final touch of timeless elegance to your looks.

Luxury Handbags

Most popular handbag in Paris - luxury edition.

1. Polène Béri

Polène was by far one of the most popular designer stores in Paris. No matter when we walked by one of their Paris locations, there was a line out the door to enter the store.

A little bit about Polène’s history – it’s a relatively new designer brand, having only been formed in 2016 in France by three siblings. The leather bags are designed in their Paris studio, with leather sourced exclusively from Spanish and Italian-certified tanneries. Their designs are known for creative folds, draping, and organic shapes.

The Béri design is one of Polène’s most recognizable. It features a beautifully unique shape with soft edges and supple leather. The craftsmanship is thoughtful and features a magnetic clasp and gold hardware. Plus, it’s versatile – it can be used as a handbag, shoulder bag with a shoulder strap, or crossbody.

2. Sézane Claude

Saddlebags like Sézane’s “Claude” were one of the most popular styles that we saw worn by women across Paris. Saddlebags are recognizable by their half-moon shape, the simple design featuring a fold-over flap, hardware typically in the center of the bag, and a shoulder strap.

Their name is also reminiscent of their original use – worn on horseback, bike, etc. Fashion meets function in this versatile, timeless bag that is just as useful as it is beautiful.

Sézane crafts their “Claude” handbag in their Italian workshop with crocodile-embossed leather. The French brand offers the bag in six stunning colors, whether you prefer a neutral style or something brighter. We stopped in one of Sézane’s boutiques in Paris, and I have to say, these bags are even more beautiful in person! Plus, they can hold more you think – and who doesn’t want that in a purse?

3. Goyard Anjou PM Bag

Goyard is another well-known French luxury brand with a long, storied history. In fact, the story of Goyard bags goes all the way back to 1792, when Pierre-François Martin created Maison Martin (Maison means “house” in French) – specializing in box-making, trunk-making, and packing.

And it turns out he was ahead of time when it came to skilled artisans – the 19th century would bring a boom in demand for these types of products. And Maison Martin had something special, honing his craft on the delicate art of garment folding and packing.

Fast forward to 1853, when talented apprentice François Goyard took over the business and renamed it “Maison Goyard.” And if you’re wondering about how the iconic Goyard bag print (or canvas) came about, that’s thanks to Francois’ son, Edmond. When he took over in 1892, he created the pattern that references the log drives conducted by his ancestors in the shape of a Y – the central letter in the Goyard family name.

People around the world commend Goyard as one of the best French handbag brands. Plus, every Goyard boutique we passed had quite a long line – meaning that their popularity is definitely not waning! And with good reason – the Goyard Anjou PM Bag features quality leather, and strong handles so that you don’t have to worry about packing the tote with everything you need for the day. Plus, it’s reversible, giving you twice the looks for your investment.

4. Sézane Milo Classic Bag

Structured box-style bags are also another favorite of Parisian women. This style is a great choice to keep your purse organized – it’s often easier to keep your things neat inside of it, rather than rummaging around a less-structured bag in which things often shift around and end up on top of each other. The structured look also lends itself well to more formal occasions, in addition to everyday wear.

The Milo has a shoulder strap for crossbody wear, making it very wearable for doing a lot of walking through the city. It features a leather exterior, cotton lining inside, and a zipped pocket and patch pocket on the interior. Plus, the brass hardware offers an elegant shine to the simple design.

5. Saint Laurent Grain de Poudre Wallet

Speaking of other Parisian-originated French luxury brands, Saint Laurent is another one of those household names with a long history in the city. Saint Laurent (sometimes known as YSL and previously known as Yves Saint Laurent) is a French luxury fashion house. Saint Laurent and his partner, Pierre Bergé founded the French brand in 1962.

If you like to keep things light (literally!), this wallet-style bag is the perfect solution. Wear it as a clutch, or with the chain over your shoulder. The luxury handbag has built-in spaces for your credit cards, change, and cash, with a separate pocket meant for your other essentials like your sunglasses, phone, or keys. This style also comes in various colors and features the well-known YSL logo on the front in gold hardware.

6. Chanel Lambskin Quilted Bag

When you think of French handbags, a Chanel is probably one of the first to come to mind! In 1910, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel opened her hat shop, Chanel Modes, at 21 rue Cambon. Over 100 years later, one of Chanel’s most famous boutiques stands just down the street at 31 rue Cambon.

Because the French luxury brand is nearly synonymous with the City of Lights, it’s no surprise that we spotted plenty of Chanel bags being worn. One of the most popular styles is the quilted pattern on the Chanel Lambskin model. It features the classic design in quality leather, with the addition of the double c’s in gold hardware – standing for Coco Chanel, of course. Even if this bag is more than you would like to spend on one piece, keep reading for similar styles that you may love just as much.

7. Celine Triomphe

The Celine Triomphe is one of my personal favorites that we spotted in Paris – in addition to other classic Celine designs, like their well-known belt. It may surprise you to learn that the brand originated in 1945 as a children’s custom shoemaker. The brand originated in Paris in 1945, begun by Céline Vipiana and her husband.

This is another version of the popular box-style bag. It features an adjustable shoulder strap, so you can wear it crossbody or on one shoulder. And of course, the highlight of the bag may be the beautiful gold triomphe clasp hardware. This bag is great for organization as well, as it features more pockets than most in this style – three inner compartments, one inner zipped pocket, and one inner flat pocket.

8. Hermès Kelly Bag

Hermès is most likely near the top of the price tier for French purses. The French fashion designer is one of the most recognizable names in the fashion industry for their coveted bags: the Birkin bag. Hermès has had a presence in Paris since 1837, when the harness-maker Thierry Hermès opened a workshop in rue Basse-du-Rempart. Now, six generations later, the brand is synonymous with luxury bags.

In 1930, Hermès first designed the bag pictured below. However, it wasn’t until 1956 that it was renamed the “Kelly” bag, named for the Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly, after she was photographed carrying it. Since then, the Kelly has been a staple in the world of iconic handbags. With its luxurious leather design, and classic top handle and hardware, this is a designer handbag that many dream about.

Looking for an alternative that is similar in design, but under $50? Here’s one from Amazon.

9. Kate Spade Katy

Color-blocked bags were also a common sight to see in Parisian street style. Parisians aren’t afraid to incorporate color into their wardrobe, and an accessory like a purse, scarf, or socks is an easy way to do that.

If you tend to lean toward more neutral bags, the Kate Spade Katy in cream and leather could be the perfect solution. There’s still the same visual interest with the contrast of the cream leather against the brown, but while maintaining a neutral appearance. This is the perfect bag to pair with a capsule wardrobe.

10. J.Crew Edie Italian Leather Bag

If you love the look of the Celine Triomphe bag but aren’t looking to purchase a haute couture piece, the Edie Italian Leather Bag from J.Crew is a great alternative. It’s made with Italian leather and cotton-twill lining, with an interior pocket.

It has the same box-style design, with a sleek exterior and classic hardware. This style also comes in various colors to fit your taste. Plus, it can be customized with your monogram to make it that much more special.

11. Madewell Zip-Top Essential Tote

This bag is the epitome of quiet luxury (without the luxury price tag). If you’re looking for an everyday tote that could also double as the ideal work bag, this is the perfect solution.

It’s one of Madewell’s best-sellers and is rated as a great value for its quality. Whether you live in a big city or you’re on the go, it’s perfectly sized to hold your laptop, water bottle, phone, wallet, and keys.

Bags don’t have to be considered “luxury goods” to be beautiful and functional. And this is a great bag, for a great price, under $200.

12. Madewell Essential Bucket Tote

If leather isn’t your style, there were plenty of other fabric choices and styles that we spotted on the streets of Paris. For instance, suede was a popular choice when it came to the best handbags.

If you’re looking for something a step down in size from a tote bag, this bucket tote is the perfect solution. It has a slimmer silhouette but is just as deep to hold everything you need for a busy day. Even with the slimmer design, it can still hold up to a 15″ laptop, water bottle, phone, wallet, and keys.

13. Everlane Cactus Leather Sling Bag

Crossbody bags or sling bags were also a popular choice in Paris, just as they seem to be here in the United States. If you’re looking for an elevated way to wear the style, try this version from Everlane.

Rather than nylon, this one is made with organically sourced prickly pear cactus. If you prefer not to purchase genuine leather bags and are looking for a sustainable alternative, cactus leather is a cruelty-free, sustainable material without any of the toxic chemicals, phthalates, and PVC that conventional leather has.

14. Longchamp Le Pliage Nylon Canvas Backpack

Longchamp is another well-known French luxury brand, albeit one with an arguably more attainable price point than most. We came across more than one of the Longchamp nylon canvas backpacks, which are a great bag if you’re looking for comfort first and foremost.

The two straps on the pack help with weight distribution, over the alternative of a shoulder bag or crossbody bags. Plus, the nylon fabric means that it’s easy to wipe clean if it gets wet or dirty.

15. Kate Spade Small Icon Sam Shoulder Bag

Although Kate Spade is a New York-originated brand, this shape of bag was a popular style across Paris. The 90s are having a comeback right now in fashion, and it makes sense that this style of bag is also having a resurgence, after becoming an iconic symbol of 90s handbags.

This bag features recycled nylon, which means it’s another sustainable option that will handle daily wear and tear with ease.

16. Mango Rectangular Leather Handbag

Besides the more typically-shaped handbags, there were plenty of more unique options as well that Parisian women wore on their shoulders.

For example, longer-shaped bags like this rectangular one were another favored choice. It’s the perfect medium-sized bag, made with 100% leather and a 100% cotton interior.

17. Mango Raffia Tote Bag

Parisians love quality, natural goods, and this raffia tote bag is the perfect choice for a picnic in front of the Eiffel Tower, or maybe in the Jardin des Tuileries. This piece is comprised of 90% raffia, 10% genuine leather, and 100% pure cotton.

Its large size makes it the perfect choice for holding a bottle of wine and some afternoon snacks. Plus, it could even fit another handbag inside it for ease of carrying.

18. All For Love Convertible Leather Crossbody Bag

Western style was everywhere in Paris – both in stores and in the street style! This bag has elements reminiscent of the traditional American Western style that add a fun element to a classic wardrobe.

The braided edges, leather material, and saddle bag style make for a great bag to ease into the Western trend.

Handbags Under $75

19. H&M Faux Leather Shopper

Tote bags were everywhere in Paris. Beauty meets function in shopper-style totes like this one from H&M. If you’re looking for the look of leather goods without real leather prices, this faux leather offering is for you. Parisians often carry a lot with them when they leave their home for a day out in the city, and this style of bag ensures they can carry everything with ease.

This shopper tote bag features two slim handles, a zipper at the top for extra security, and an inner zipper pocket. There’s also a layer of lining inside the bag, which helps extend the bag’s life and ensures it will withstand the test of time.

20. H&M Jacquard Weave Shopper Tote

Speaking of tote bag inspiration, you’ll love this jacquard weave version from H&M. If you love the look of the Dior Book tote but logos on products aren’t your thing, a bag like this is the perfect solution.

The material resembles the look of the book tote without being as recognizable as the trendy piece. Plus, this version is much more spacious! It also features an inner lining, and a zipper pocket inside for things you want to keep extra secure.

21. H&M Straw Shopper

A straw shopper is a must-have accessory for warmer weather! Finding green space and bringing along an afternoon snack is the perfect way to enjoy a sunny day in Paris, and the parks we passed in the city were always full.

A straw shopper like this one is the best bag to pack your favorite picnic blanket, cheese, and baguette. Plus, it features a shoulder strap for extra ease.

22. Quilted Crossbody Bag

If you like the looks of the quilted Chanel crossbody bags but aren’t ready to make that kind of investment in a bag, this alternative from Amazon is the perfect solution. It features a similar quilted stitching and pattern, in a small body that’s ideal for a night out.

The chain strap allows you to wear it over one shoulder or as a crossbody bag – whichever is your preference. This simple design has withstood the test of time with its timeless elegance and can be dressed up or down, no matter the occasion.

23. Canvas Tote Bag

Believe it or not, simple canvas tote bags were heavily favored by Parisian men and women! Not only are they very affordable, but there are so many different colors, patterns, and prints out there to make it your own.

For example, this Van Gogh print has a slightly vintage feel and is perfect for the art lover. There is just about any print out there that you could want, and Amazon has a ton of options under $15.

24. Mini Shopper with Rear Padlock

This mini shopper features a classic style with a simple design. We spied smaller bags like this more often at dinnertime. It’s the perfect size to fit everything you need after freshening up, dropping off your packages of the day at home, and grabbing your phone, wallet, and maybe a lipstick for the rest of your night.

A shoulder strap is a must if you’re walking long distances, and this bag has a detachable one. It also features an interior zippered pocket for safekeeping.

25. Rectangular Bag with Flap

This bag offers a slightly more vintage feel and would pair well with your favorite classic outfit. The envelope-style design is reminiscent of an academia aesthetic, but would add the perfect unique touch to all kinds of looks. It’s also a clean look, if simplicity is something you look for in the best handbags.

The faux leather bag features gold hardware, interior lining, and an inner pocket.

26. Montana West Small Crossbody

Here’s another crossbody with a vintage-inspired design, the perfect size to fit all of your necessities. It comes in a wide variety of colors, and the front pocket is designed especially to fit most smartphones so you don’t have to dig through the rest of your things to find it.

27. Puffer Tote Bag

This puffer tote bag is the perfect solution for rainy Paris days. Plus, this is an excellent travel tote as it’s easy to wipe clean. It has plenty of room for a laptop, book, or other travel items. Plus, the quilted pattern adds a unique element that will make your bag stand out.

So, What’s the Most Popular Handbag in Paris?

While I won’t pretend that I can name one bag as the “most popular” in all of Paris – there are certainly common themes that can be found in these 27 bags. Beauty and function are certainly two seemingly equally important characteristics in the bags that Parisians wear. And it makes sense!

When you’re choosing to save for a new handbag, you want to find one that fits the needs of your daily life – not the other way around. And with a list of 27 beautiful bags to choose from, maybe you found exactly what you’re looking for in this post!
