I was on vacation this summer and had lots of photos taken with my beautiful big boned and very tall cousin and noticed that I looked about as tall as I am wide. Why? Because she was wearing belts, and I was wearing shapeless tents.

Good ideas for a fluffy girl. This summer–at the tender age of 57–I had an epiphany. Wearing a belt makes me look so much slimmer. How did I miss this simple yet all important fashion tip?

I agree totally with you. I personally can not stand anything between my big toe and the one next to it so I have never been a flip flop fan. I don’t really like Uggs either, I think they are kind of shapeless. I’m a big girl; wider in the hips but with small shoulders. I don’t like to show my arms so sleeveless isn’t for me either. I love the look of a boat neck, 3/4 length sleeve but I do have a problem with boat necks because they slide off my shoulders at times and my bra straps are showing. I hate that and have tried several ways to correct it. I read this article just to get some suggestions for dressing that I haven’t thought about. I don’t see the need for nastiness in response. If you don’t agree, do your thing but don’t be offensive to others in your responses. I love cowboy boots. I’m 70 years old and I wouldn’t wear them with a pretty dress to a wedding or special occasion, but with a nice pair of boot cut or wider leg jean, they look classy. Being bigger (18 size), I think skinny leg jeans with a bigger middle and rear, do nothing for anyone, but that’s just my opinion. Wear what you want, but be clean and try to look decent when you go out in public.

Darlin’ you can rock a pair of jeans in a heartbeat with any number of tops just like skinny girls. Make sure they FIT and aren’t too tight (muffin top – go for high waisted). Put on your heels with them, show off your curves, put on a stylish belt, top off with a jacket to disguise a midriff and make sure tops cover your bum with leggings! That applies to everyone over 12 unless they have a flawless figure and a small bum. Even the Kardashians’ bum looks trashy hanging out in the breeze barely concealed in skin-tight leggings. Lululemon if you like, however, LONG toppers!

Some women can rock a core wardrobe. I’m all over the place with clothes that I like. My closet is a smorgasbord of color, vintage, trending, classic, Boho, solids, prints, and the base staples you named. The number ONE anchor/go to for me is a pair of classic fitted jeans, though.

The old fashion adage is loose on the bottom, form fit on the top and visa versa. High waist wide leg pairs with a form fitting camisole, or a fitted tee. Keep the colors solid and the jewelry small/simple. Choose one: fashion belt, or statement scarf (can use as a belt!). Too many accessories look ‘cluttered’. Coco Chanel – “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.” Great advice unless you are going full out Boho. A jacket is the quintessential “third piece” for any outfit. A slim, fitted solid color blazer with the lean cami/tee and the wide leg pants rocks. Big top (sweater/oversize tee – cover the bootie please) with slim jeans, jeggings or opaque leggings and boots is a winner. Add that statement belt! Boots from over the knee to ankle height work.

Depends on the style of the Crocs and where you are going. I have a strappy “skin tone beige” sandal they make. On a rainy day, to the beach, at the pool, and walking for a long time in the summer they are wonderful. They can be soaking wet and don’t fall apart. They don’t go to dinner, but pretty much anywhere else. The other pair (classic ugly round toe sling back strap) is strictly a summer garden shoe for when it’s too hot for Wellies in FL. They take the trash out, keep me above the mud and the mulch, and wash off wonderfully. People who stand all day at work swear by Crocs. They have their place.

Firstly, most “Uggs” you see around now are knock-offs and faux suede, and secondly, the animals are never, and have never been, skinned alive. They are good and dead when they are skinned and don’t feel a thing. Don’t be so dramatic.
