With summer inching closer by the day, it’s only normal to start to get (really!) excited about your next trip and the exciting summer activities that are on the horizon. Beyond packing our suitcases full of beach-ready looks and dinner ensembles, having a good airport outfit is essential for a streamlined experience that will make your life easier in the long run.

Of course, comfort is a priority here! Especially during the summer time, having chic airport outfits does not mean that we can’t find ways of being completely content and cozy in our seats as we try to doze off until landing. After all, the best airport outfits are truly the ones that make you feel the most comfortable! No matter what style you lean towards, trendy, classic, or somewhere in between, there are many different ways of truly nailing airport fashion – it’s really about simple pieces that make sure you are prepared for anything that could happen during your long flights.

Before we get into the list of curated, comfy airport outfits for summer traveling, it’s important to go over some of the basics of good travel style. This quick checklist is a great way of saving yourself a huge amount of time by reminding you of the things that are crucial to consider before you get started on your shopping. Getting ready for your next flight? Then stick with me!

Summer Travel Essentials

Unsurprisingly, summer travel calls for an ensemble that blends style and comfort to have you really feeling your best. Begin with a lightweight and versatile pair of pants for the perfect foundation for your travel outfit.

More specifically, a stretchy fabric and loose-fitting silhouette are two elements you’ll likely not want to give up here. Combine it with a well-fitted or breezy top in a soft fabric to ensure you stay cool and comfortable throughout your travel day.

Footwear Matters

We’ve all heard about the travel hack of all travel hacks – traveling with your biggest, heaviest shoes can be really helpful when you are trying to pack light. If you’re in for a long travel day, though, you might want to consider opting for comfortable shoes instead.

Navigating through airports can be a marathon in and of itself, so opt for footwear that balances style and practicality for the best of both worlds. Slip-on sneakers, slippers, or even comfortable sandals are ideal choices for both ease of movement and a touch of chic flair.

The Art of Layering

Sure, this next tip might be more fitting for the colder months of the year, but it’s definitely still valid here. Even if you are traveling during the summer, airports and airplanes are known for their unpredictable temperatures.

To avoid a very uncomfortable trip, always be prepared with a lightweight, stylish layer that goes with the rest of your look. From a cardigan or crewneck sweater to even a tailored blazer, there are many options to choose from – especially depending on where you’re headed.

Accessorize Well

Traveling with accessories can be immediately overwhelming, especially when you are trying to find pieces that can match not only a variety of your best vacation outfits, but also your airport looks. When it comes to travel, great accessories can be defined as timeless, classic pieces that can be adapted to most – if not all – of your looks. Chic and stress-free… that’s the goal!

Carry-On Chic

Your choice of handbag is an essential component of your airport ensemble. Of course, depending on your personal preference and specific travel plans, your needs might change when it comes to picking the right handbag, so it’s always important to keep your priorities in mind.

In general, I recommend opting for a spacious tote or a stylish backpack to carry your essentials in. A well-organized bag can both complement your outfit and also ensure that all of your travel essentials and important travel documents stay safely by your side at all times.

Fabric Matters

When it comes to thinking about comfort, choose fabrics that are not only fashionable but also practical for travel. Lightweight cotton, linen, and jersey fabrics can be particularly great choices as they allow your skin to breathe, ensuring comfort during long haul flights, layovers, and beyond.

Now, let’s get styling!

1. crewneck t-shirt + knit ribbed pants + ribbed cardigan + slippers + tote + earrings

comfy airport summer outfits

t-shirt | pants | cardigan | slippers | tote | earrings

There’s nothing like a comfortable loungewear set to make traveling that much more comfortable. Start this look off with this basic white t-shirt that will keep you comfortable and cool during your flight.

Pair with these straight-fit ribbed pants for ultimate comfort as you head to your destination. Whether or not you tend to get cold on flights, bringing this ribbed cardigan with you is a must. Not only does it make a set with your trousers, instantly making you look more put together, but it also keeps you comfortable and warm without taking too much space from your tote or backpack.

For shoes, these Ugg slippers can be considered the perfect look and travel shoe. Beloved by many for its aesthetic and ultra-comfortable fit, these socially acceptable slippers will truly have you covered when it comes to traveling comfortably without compromising on your style at all.

Add a delicate and feminine touch to your final look with these chunky dome hoop earrings. While they do add an extra flair to your look, this accessory doesn’t get in the way of your travel comfort, and can be styled and worn at your destination as well!

Designed to be practical and easy to travel with, this minimalist tote will truly make your life easier while matching your outfit as well.

2. linen blend pants + white t-shirt + cotton sweater + sneakers + weekend travel bag

comfy airport summer outfits

pants | tee | sweater | sneakers | bag

This next look is perfect for those who want to look a little more put together while still keeping comfort as their number one priority.

Start off this look with these black, pull-on linen blend pants. For many of us, being inside an airplane – or airport for that matter – totally negates any need for things like zippers, buttons, or anything slightly uncomfortable, and these trousers are very much on board with that philosophy. This pull-on style could not be better for a long travel day, keeping things flowy, laid-back, and breathable.

On top, pair it with this white t-shirt – another great piece for prioritizing comfort while also balancing beautifully with the looser fit of the pants.

Carry this cotton crewneck sweater around your shoulder or inside your travel bag to stay prepared for chillier temperatures in the plane or the terminals. Beyond being super practical for a travel day, a good sweater is a great addition to any cute airport outfit and your vacation wardrobe in general!

Even if you are headed to a more tropical location, it never hurts to be prepared with an elegant, super versatile, extra warm layer just in case you need it.

For shoes, keep things comfortable and efficient the easy way – opt for this pair of sleek white sneakers. For shorter trips, or if you have a lot to bring with you on the plane, this weekend bag is perfect for getting organized.

3. cotton tank + high waist leggings + button-up blouse + sneakers + bucket tote + hoop earrings

tank | leggings | blouse | sneakers | tote | earrings

Finding a good airport outfit to wear during the summer can be difficult as you try to navigate different scenarios, temperatures, and practical aspects to come up with the perfect travel ensemble. Leggings make for a great option if you love to be comfortable but don’t want to commit to a thick pair of sweats for your entire trip.

Start off with a simple, sleek foundation – high-waisted black leggings and a black cotton tank top. Over the top, layer an oversized linen button-up blouse for some extra coverage and an additional extra layer for comfort.

This outfit is perfect for those who are traveling from a colder location to somewhere very warm, as it can be easily adaptable to different temperatures while still remaining lightweight and easy to wear throughout your travel day.

For accessories, opt for the classics that work every time. A pair of black and white sneakers tie the outfit together, while this bucket tote keeps your belongings safe nearby while also giving your outfit an elevated feel. Finish this look off with a pair of hoop earrings that complete the look without overwhelming it or getting in your way.

4. high-waisted linen pants + tank + flats + cotton cardigan + hoop earrings + tote

comfy airport summer outfit traveling

pants | tank | shoes | cardigan | earrings | tote

For a chic and elegant airport ensemble that you can walk straight into your vacation with, this next look is it. Lightweight, airy, and super chic, this outfit features a gorgeous pair of high-waisted linen pants for an elevated foundation. This lightweight fabric will keep you cool throughout your journey, while also making a great addition to your vacation closet once you reach your destination.

On top, this nude tank top pairs beautifully with the trousers, making for an almost monochrome look that seamlessly works together.

Accessorize with a gorgeous shade of chocolate brown, featured both in your handbag and in your ultra-comfortable shoes that are ideal for walking around all day long.

In this gorgeous and subtle canvas shade, this cotton cardigan brings some more texture into this almost monochrome look, keeping the timeless appeal of this ensemble intact. As for an easy accessory to style, these dainty hoop earrings add a final detail to your look without impacting your comfort or the convenience of your travel outfit – talk about having airport outfit game!

5. wide-leg linen pant + boat-neck tee + clog + sweater + stud earrings + backpack

comfy airport summer outfit traveling

pants | tee | clogs | sweater | earrings | backpack

Of course, the right airport look for you will depend greatly on how much time you’ll be spending doing things like waiting at the airport or actually flying towards your final destination.

For long haul flights or just long journeys in general (did anybody say layover???), wide-leg pants are the perfect place to begin, especially in linen. This striped design is perfect for the summer time, adding some personality and style to your travel outfit while still keeping you ultra-comfortable and ready to tackle your journey. Once again, these pants are the perfect travel look since they can be easily integrated into your vacation wardrobe as well.

On top, an elevated white tee is an ideal choice for keeping you cool while also contributing to your look. Something as simple as a high scoop neck can take a simple white tee from basic to chic – details make a huge difference! On top, layer a light blue sweater for an extra dose of some summer colors when you get a little chillier.

Accessorize with a simple, dainty pair of silver stud earrings and a pair of Birkenstock clogs for a perfect mix of comfort and contemporary style at once. To safely and efficiently carry your belongings along with you, opt for this optimally designed travel backpack for all of your in-transit needs!

6. pull-on jeans + cotton muscle tee + slides + weekender bag

comfy airport summer outfit traveling

jeans | tee | slides | bag

This airport outfit is especially ideal for shorter flights and summer trips, when you are looking for an outfit that is still comfortable, but can have a little more structure to it as well.

Of course, jeans aren’t going to be ideal for long-hauls or international flights, but this pull-on style is perfect for those traveling shorter distances to your much-awaited summer vacations. Keeping you comfortable while still featuring a more put-together feel, these pants are amazing for their versatility.

Pair with a comfy pair of sandals to reinforce the summery style and casual look.

On top, this simple cotton tee features a flattering fit with beautiful short-sleeve detailing, and a gentle scoop neck feature as well. Tuck in your t-shirt slightly for a more intentional, better-fitting overall ensemble.

To carry your belongings safely without sacrificing your style, bet on this weekender bag that matches both your travel needs and your travel outfit aesthetic.

7. cardigan + button-up shirt + satin pull-on pant + mule + straw tote

comfy airport summer outfit traveling

cardigan | shirt | pants | mules | tote

It’s no secret that those of us who experience serious winters very much look forward to our summer vacations every year. No matter where you’re headed, it’s easy to understand not wanting to wait any longer to get the party going. On the same note as the last outfit, this look is perfect for shorter travel days when you can’t wait to arrive at your destination in the right vacation mood!

Start this look off with this fan-favorite, satin pull-on pants. Featuring a super comfortable fit and a beautiful pattern, these trousers will need to come with you wherever you’re headed!

On top, this lightweight button-up shirt keeps your look classy and cool throughout your flight. On top, trade in your winter leather jacket for this beautiful cotton-blend cardigan to add yet another layer of comfort to your flight and your trip.

This look is really all about the accessories – after all, it’s really time to get into the vacation mood as you head out to the airport. This big straw tote and pair of mules will have you summer-ready while also saving you some major suitcase space as they are the perfect accessories to enjoy your vacation in too.

8. joggers + oversized crewneck + micro-rib short tank + sneaker + crossbody bag

comfy airport summer outfit traveling

joggers | crewneck | tank | sneakers | bag

On the other side of the spectrum, we have extremely long trips, layovers, hours waiting inside an unknown airport, and a few other inconvenient obstacles before getting to our perfect vacation destination. If that’s your case, then this ultra comfy – but still cool and stylish – look might be the one you go for.

Start with this super comfortable pair of jogger sweatpants; perfect for ensuring you stay cozy throughout your entire travel journey. As far as neutrals go, this classic gray shade is also a perfect choice for these joggers as they match nearly everything!

Pair your sweatpants with a cropped tank top that you won’t want to take off. This choice is ideal for this look, balancing out your sweatpants both in style and functionality. For the summer time, pairing your cropped sweats with a thin and breathable tank will make for an outfit you can really relax in.

If you do get a little cold on the plane, this oversized crewneck will feel like a warm cozy hug, matching perfectly with your pants.

Finish off this simple, sleek look with some super comfortable and stylish sneakers, as well as a convenient sling crossbody bag to keep your documents and plane tickets safe.

9. knit lounge set + clog + woven tote bag + chunky hoop earrings

comfy airport summer outfit traveling

lounge set | clogs | tote | earrings

If you’re looking for the best matching loungewear sets out there, I think this might make the cut! Offering convenience just as much as comfort for your time at the airport, this set might have you hitting “add to cart”. Similar to a standard sweat set, this combo makes for the perfect travel outfit for more than one reason.

With a cropped tank top, a cardigan, and pants, this soft loungewear set is perfect for wearing both in the comfort of your own home and the (slightly less appealing) comfort of your airplane seat. This super convenient set allows you to mix and match according to the temperature, while still being easy to carry with you in your bag and great to wear on vacation as PJs or something to wear around your room.

Dress it up slightly with a gold pair of hoop earrings that make you look a little more put together without inconveniencing you in any way. For shoes, these black slides will be your best friends, along with your favorite pair of cozy socks straight from home.

For a bag, this beautiful woven tote will keep all of your belongings safe and easy to carry around, while also giving your outfit a pop of a different neutral.

Have you ever daydreamed about going to Paris and wondered how to put together cute and chic travel outfits? You don’t have to have a personal stylist or get outfits sent from French designers (but that’d be cool!) in order to put together numerous stylish and versatile outfits. The secret? A capsule wardrobe for travel.

Yep, it’s that simple. Having a capsule wardrobe for traveling is fun and practical. Plus, knowing that you have all your essential and stylish outfits on your packing list makes traveling extra exciting, as it helps to guarantee that you have lots of outfit options and that you’re comfortable throughout your trip.

So, let’s say you want to look fashionable on your next Europe trip but find packing the right items your biggest challenge. In that case, I recommend building a capsule wardrobe for travel. It has made packing a breeze for me, and I know it will for you, too!

What is a Capsule Wardrobe for Travel?

A woman’s travel capsule wardrobe is a thoughtfully curated collection of travel clothes. It contains versatile basics that can be easily mixed and matched to create different looks. It is categorized by outerwear, tops, bottoms, shoes, and dresses that serve multiple purposes for different occasions. These clothing items are usually in a neutral color palette that complements each other.

Whether you’re going on a business trip to another state or a three-week trip to Europe, a capsule wardrobe will come in handy. If you are still not convinced to create a capsule wardrobe, here are reasons why having a capsule wardrobe for travel is essential:

How a Capsule Wardrobe Will Make Your Life Easier

Memorable outfits: Having a capsule travel wardrobe allows you to have a few select and memorable outfits in your suitcase rather than a cluttered array of clothing. You can prepare your outfits quickly because you don’t have to spend hours figuring out what pair of bottoms go with what pair of shoes. This leaves you with extra time to do touristy things in the morning – like taking pictures at a landmark before it gets too busy or grabbing a spot at that iconic breakfast cafe before it’s full.

Confidence boost: Thanks to a capsule wardrobe, you can confidently travel because you have a well-curated selection of timeless staples to create cohesive looks. This can make you feel excited to travel rather than stressed, as you’ll feel well-prepared.

Efficient packing: A capsule wardrobe for travel helps you simplify packing by focusing on versatile clothes and essentials, so you no longer have to deal with decision fatigue during packing. Plus, it leaves you room in your suitcase for non-clothing-related items too.

Less laundry: The upside of having a capsule wardrobe for travel means you don’t have to worry about doing a lot of laundry – because why spend time doing laundry when you can be taking pictures by the Eiffel Tower or exploring the sights around you? If you don’t carry excess clothes in your suitcase you’ll have less laundry to do!

Adaptable clothing: A capsule wardrobe means you have versatile clothing that adapts to many situations during travels to Paris. You can have a slip dress in your suitcase if you need to go to a fancy restaurant. If it’s a casual setting, you can put on a basic tee, Veja sneakers, and straight-leg jeans. A capsule wardrobe for travel provides you with a sense of relief in being prepared for any fashion scenario.

Lighter travel: Without a capsule wardrobe, your suitcase may be filled with excessive clothes. Excessive clothes equals heavy luggage and expensive luggage fees – sound familiar? However, with a capsule wardrobe, you don’t have to worry about that anymore. Having fewer items can reduce your luggage’s weight, giving you the freedom to easily travel around.

A sustainable approach to traveling: Do you tend to shop too much? Creating a capsule wardrobe for travel can help you be mindful of how many clothes you buy, therefore minimizing how many clothes you get rid of too. This can drastically cut down on the overconsuming cycle you may find yourself in. If you are interested in sustainability, having a capsule wardrobe for travel is perfect for you!

Now, to help you create the perfect travel capsule wardrobe, I listed the travel essentials that have served me well on my trips to Paris, in hopes that they will help you to pack efficiently and stylishly too!

travel capsule wardrobe paris

OUTERWEAR

Whether you need a simple cardigan or a light jacket, having the right outerwear for your season will make your trip more comfortable. (Always take your specific climate into consideration and adapt accordingly!)

Outerwear pieces in a capsule travel wardrobe are also great for versatile layering, as they can easily be paired with different outfits. Plus, outerwear pieces can act as perfect statement pieces too. A coat, jacket, or vest can add personality to an otherwise simple outfit.

slip dress and tweed lady jacket

Tweed Jacket (similar) – Going to a stylish city? Whether you’re traveling to Paris or London, a tweed jacket is too elegant to leave behind. Plus, it makes any travel outfit look effortlessly polished, whether you’re pairing it with a black slip dress for a fancy dinner or a basic t-shirt for a day of shopping. A tweed jacket is also great because it can be transitioned from day to night.

trench coat travel capsule wardrobe

Trench Coat – You need this outerwear piece in your travel wardrobe – especially if you are traveling to Europe! A classic trench coat is a must-have and luckily, there are so many different ways to style it. Style ideas: Layer it over a sweater for cold weather styling, pair it with a white button-down and jeans for a crisp fall look, or layer it over a chic slip dress to create a timeless spring outfit.

blazer capsule travel wardrobe

Blazer – An easy way to look fashionable on a European vacation is with a classic blazer. Blazers can quickly adapt to the different activities you may find yourself in. Plus, they pair easily with the other clothing items in your capsule wardrobe too, such as a white tee or Oxford shirt.

vest capsule wardrobe

Vest – Though slightly unexpected, a vest can be a great modern travel staple – for all climates. The buttons and V-neckline can give your Paris travel outfits a polished flair. And thanks to the cropped style, you can easily style it with jeans and skirts without looking frumpy.

And of course, let’s not forget the power of layering and how it adds extra interest to your outfit! A vest can look as stylish layered over a turtleneck as it does with a white button-down. Headed somewhere warm? Wear your vest alone as a sleeveless top.

cardigan jeans travel capsule wardrobe

Cardigan – Take the time to find your favorite cardigan and you’ll be wearing it on rotation! The versatility of a cardigan is unmatched – it can be styled with all travel tops and bottoms. It’s also practical because if the weather gets warm, you can still wear it around your shoulders to keep it out of the way while looking fashionable.

TOPS

Tops are excellent base layers for every travel outfit, so picking the right ones is important. My tip for choosing suitable tops for traveling? Aim for versatility and comfort.

turtleneck and trench coat outfit

Turtleneck – A turtleneck is a classic piece that can be dressed up with a black skirt or down with straight-leg jeans. I recommend opting for a white (or other neutral) turtleneck because it will perfectly complement the other colors in your capsule wardrobe.

Having a turtleneck is also great because it’s a layering essential. You can pair it with your camel trench coat to create a sophisticated museum look, or pair it with a t-shirt for an effortlessly chic travel look. And thanks to its timeless designs, it’ll ensure that you’ll remain stylish in Paris, London, Milan, or wherever your travels take you, regardless of the current fashion trends.

striped shirt capsule travel wardrobe

Striped Shirt (similar) – For your upcoming trip, remember to pack a striped shirt! The styling possibilities are endless with this sophisticated top. A striped shirt looks so chic in the warm weather when teamed up with laid-back jeans or denim shorts and sandals. Plus, it will come in handy when creating semi-formal outfits too. You can dress it up with a black skirt and block heels, or bring out your trusty tweed jacket for an effortlessly chic combo.

What’s more to love about this striped shirt? It has a timeless appeal and will ensure that all your travel outfits remain stylish for a long time.

white t-shirt travel capsule wardrobe

Basic Tee – A white tee is every wardrobe’s soulmate; it can’t live without it. Whenever in doubt about what to wear when traveling, reach for a basic tee. It works well with other pieces in your capsule wardrobe and is easy to style. You can wear it with a blazer, black pants, or sneakers – the styling possibilities are endless!

Though you might be afraid of it getting dirty, a basic white T-shirt is still a smart choice to wear when traveling. So, if you don’t have one yet, it’s time to add it to your collection!

white button down travel capsule wardrobe

White Button-Down – Next up is a white button-down shirt – another travel wardrobe workhorse. A white button-down is not only great for styling with your other formal pieces (like black pants and blazers), but it’s also great for styling during the summertime. It can make a chic cover-up for swimsuits or a great shirt to pair with jeans and sandals.

oxford shirt women

Oxford Shirt – An Oxford shirt can be another important piece in a travel capsule wardrobe, though you might be wondering what the difference is between this and a white button-down/up.

A white button-up shirt for women typically refers to the classic dress shirt. They’re often designed to be dressier and are traditionally made of smooth, lightweight fabrics like poplin or twill.

On the other hand, an Oxford style shirt refers to a type of shirt made from Oxford cloth, which is thicker and has a distinct textured, basketweave pattern. The fit is typically more relaxed than a traditional dress shirt.

Both can be versatile and stylish pieces in a woman’s wardrobe, but they do have a lot of overlap, so if you are trying to pack light, just pick one.

I like a relaxed, oxford-style shirt in addition to a crisp white button-up because it offers more styling opportunities. A relaxed and oversized fit can be a great layering piece over all your capsule wardrobe tops or can look effortlessly chic when tucked into high-waisted jeans.

DRESSES

Wherever you plan to travel, make sure to pack at least one dress in your suitcase! But not just any dress – something black and easy to wear, like a slip dress. They’re comfortable to wear while traveling and are easy to style.

slip dress and trench coat outfit

Slip Dress – No matter what your personal style is, a slip dress is a closet staple for traveling. Whether you’re going on a warm-weather trip or you’re exploring the City of Lights, a slip dress is a must-have item.

You can easily style it with a blazer or a trench coat and flats for an extra elevated dinner look. Alternatively, you can dress it down with sneakers for a casual chic shopping look.

BOTTOMS

straight leg jeans travel

Straight-leg Jeans – Straight-leg jeans (or your favorite style of jeans that you feel most comfortable in) are an essential part of travel style. From sneakers to block heels, they can be paired with virtually anything. They can also work for any occasion, whether boarding a plane or walking through the cobblestone streets.

black pants travel outfit

Black Pants – Do you always want to have the right thing to wear while traveling? I highly recommend getting black pants. You really can’t go wrong! One of the best ways to style black pants in an everyday travel look would be with a basic tee or a striped t-shirt. Just look for a comfortable waist that you could picture yourself wearing for hours at a time – like this pair!

black skirt travel outfit

Black Skirt – Like black pants, black skirts are equally as important in a capsule wardrobe for traveling. You can create a lot of versatile travel outfits with one, for either casual or elevated occasions. Mini, midi, or maxi – choose the hemline that makes you feel the most comfortable.

SHOES

Lastly, you can’t create a capsule travel wardrobe without planning what pairs of shoes to pack. Here are some great options to add to your capsule wardrobe:

sneakers travel outfit

Sneakers – Sneakers are essential for traveling – whether you’re on a long-haul flight or spending hours walking through the city. Thanks to minimalist sneaker styles, you can feel comfortable and still look chic by slipping on sneakers. My favorite go-to sneakers are Veja in white. With minimal designs and a neutral hue, these sneakers easily adapt to many items in a travel capsule wardrobe. Pair it with a slip dress, black skirt, or straight-leg jeans.

However, Veja sneakers aren’t your only option. Though not as minimalist looking, these New Balances rank high on the comfort level as well.

trench coat paris outfit

Block Heel – Travel season and fancy dinners may call for heels – but most likely not stilettos. Though cute, they are often not comfortable enough to wear on the go; That’s where block heels come in handy. You can never go wrong with a simple and streamlined neutral pair, but don’t be afraid to add some personality either! Consider choosing a pair with a Mary Jane style to give your travel outfits a preppy touch.

loafers outfit

Loafers (similar) -Another practical and elegant footwear you may not be able to be without is loafers. They’re not just for the boardroom. Loafers are great for creating chic airport outfits or for spending the afternoon at the museum. They’re perfect for whenever you need a practical and elegant shoe.

ankle boots outfit

Boots – These knit boots are one of my favorite ankle boots to wear on the go! They give my feet a sleek fit and feel like I’m wearing socks. Even better, they look good with every clothing item in my travel capsule wardrobe.

ballet flats travel outfit

Ballet Flats – These flats are tried-and-true essentials in my travel capsule wardrobe. They’re practical and cute to wear with any of my travel outfits.

Key Takeaways of Creating a Capsule Wardrobe for Travel

Stick to a neutral color scheme: As you can see, it’s important to create a capsule wardrobe with clothing items in a neutral color scheme. White, beige, camel, black, and gray complement each other well, but you’re not limited to just those options. Blues and greens can be considered neutral as well.

Remember to pack basics and wardrobe staples: You won’t be able to create chic travel looks without sticking (mostly) to classic clothing items. Blazers, trench coats, straight-leg jeans, sneakers, and boots are travel wardrobe must-haves that never fail. Once you have your essentials in place, feel free to add a few statement pieces to your suitcase – if you have the room, that is!

Don’t overpack: The goal of having a capsule wardrobe for travel is to have a well-curated clothing collection. Though adding a few statement pieces is fun, focus on the accessories that can make your outfit feel fresh, rather than excess clothing items. You may be surprised at what little wardrobe staples you actually need to get you through your trip.

Make sure to consider versatile styles: Put your focus on versatile clothes. If you pick clothes that can mix and match with each other, you won’t be struggling and scrambling to put together new outfit ideas.

Select high-quality pieces: This is another important step for creating the best capsule wardrobe for travel: Picking quality items that will last a long time. Buying a top that gets faded or loses a button after one trip would be disappointing, and frankly, a waste of money. If you have room in your budget, focus on high-quality pieces.

Some of my favorite brands to get durable clothing items are Banana Republic Factory, Madewell, J.Crew Factory, and Everlane.

Comfort is key: Did you notice that all the items I listed were chic and comfortable? Don’t compromise your convenience to look stylish! There are many clothes you can find that are equally comfortable and stylish.

Creating Your Capsule Wardrobe for Travel

Though it’s not entirely a new concept, a capsule wardrobe for travel is my “secret” to creating the best vacation looks, whether I’m traveling to the beach or to a big city.

If you follow these travel capsule wardrobe tips, you are going to put together chic and elegant outfits, all the while minimizing stress. (And who doesn’t want that?)

I recently had the chance to explore Newport, Rhode Island, and take in the beautiful sights while also experimenting with my wardrobe. Though it was still warm out, the leaves already started turning yellow and the weather was cooler at night, especially by the water. To match the aesthetic of the coastal town as well as suit the fluctuating weather, I created some Newport outfits with transitional fashion pieces that are perfect for this current season. From striped sweaters to slip dresses, here are outfits you can recreate for the changing of the seasons, inspired by Newport!

Newport Bound

As soon as my friend and I decided on Newport as our destination, I was excited to put together outfits for a coastal town. After all, I have enough stripes to last a lifetime. (Not really, but close.) And what’s more nautical and coastal than a striped sweater? All in all, the charming seaside town with historic mansions and a scenic harbor makes the perfect backdrop for classic yet transitional fashion!

The Essentials: Building a Transitional Wardrobe

Whether you are visiting Newport or dressing for the summer-to-fall transition, building a versatile wardrobe with pieces that can be layered and mixed and matched is essential for any location.

The first essential piece in a transitional wardrobe is a lightweight jacket. Whether it’s a denim jacket, cardigan, or blazer, having a go-to layering piece is a must. This will keep you warm during cooler evenings and can easily be removed when the sun comes out.

And as a bonus – the right jacket has the power to transform your look into something new. Take the blazer below, for example. It takes a cute and casual outfit into something nice enough to be worn to a nice dinner. (And with a shoe change too!)

blazer | button-up | shorts

Next, invest in some staple bottoms. A pair of jeans in a light to medium wash and a versatile skirt or shorts in a neutral color will go a long way. These pieces work extra hard in your wardrobe and can be worn with a variety of tops and shoes.

shorts | sneakers

Speaking of tops, having a range of options is important. From lightweight blouses to long-sleeved shirts, having a mix of fabrics and styles will ensure you’re prepared for any weather – and style!

Consider pieces in both neutral and select bolder colors to add variety to your outfits. I find that a tank top, cardigan, lightweight sweater, blazer, and linen button-up are some of the most versatile pieces.

Don’t forget about dresses! They definitely have a place in a transitional wardrobe. When choosing dresses for your transitional wardrobe, opt for styles that can be layered or dressed up or down, depending on the weather and occasion.

dress | cardigan

A classic slip dress in a neutral color is a great option as it can be worn on its own during warmer months or layered with a blazer or cardigan when the temperature drops. Plus, just by swapping out the shoes, you can create so many different looks.

For a more casual vibe, consider a flowy maxi dress in a lightweight fabric. This dress can be paired with sandals for a relaxed summer look, or paired with closed-toed shoes and a jacket for a fall outfit.

Other dress styles to consider are the shirt dress or wrap dress. These are both great options for versatile pieces. Wear them on their own during warmer months and layer when it gets cooler out.

Last but not least, you’ll need proper footwear and accessories to nail the transitional look! Comfortable sneakers are a must for any weather, while sandals and mules can elevate your outfit for a night out. An easy slip-on shoe, like a slide or clog is great at striking the right balance between summer and fall.

Simple accessories like a pendant necklace, hoop earrings, and sunglasses complete your Newport-inspired looks. Of course, a beautiful handbag can complete your look too.

The changing of the seasons is always an exciting time, and the outfits you wear can only enhance the experience!

A few weeks ago, I visited Newport, Rhode Island with a childhood friend for the first time and it did not disappoint! We both love architecture so we went into the trip expecting to see some pretty things, but I was pleasantly surprised with how many extra special things there were to enjoy. Newport is known for their historic mansions (which were amazing to visit), but I also loved the seaside views, food, and shopping. Historic mansions aside, Newport was bursting with beautiful neighborhoods to walk through!

My friend and I are both in the home-building process, she’s at the beginning and I’m toward the end, but we both walked away with lots of fresh inspiration. Though a lot of my decisions are set in stone (somewhat literally – ha), I got inspired by landscaping and the smaller details that really make a house shine.

Just in case you’re not planning a trip to Newport anytime soon (though I recommend it), take a trip to Newport through photographs instead! Here’s how Newport has inspired my own design aesthetic – and may just inspire yours too.

1. Pea Gravel IS a Good Idea

Whether it was a pea gravel garden, walkway, or even driveway, I was surprised by how much pea gravel I saw. Especially because I thought the perception that most people held was that pea gravel is hard to maintain, especially with snowy weather.

I’ve always loved pea gravel and the atmosphere it provides (I instantly think of dreamy European homes), so it’s nice to see that so many people use it at their homes – snow and all!

I want to incorporate pea gravel into my home with a front yard courtyard. To me, it doesn’t get much more charming than that. Another way you can utilize pea gravel is in your backyard by creating a seating area made out of or surrounded by a border of this natural material. By placing a few comfortable chairs and a bistro table, you can create a serene spot to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Or you can incorporate pea gravel by creating pathways throughout your garden. The soft crunch of the gravel underfoot adds to the experience, reminiscent of strolling along Newport’s picturesque beaches!

2. Windows Can Get Dressed Up With a Faux Iron Balcony

Want to elevate the overall aesthetic of your exterior? An iron balcony, whether faux or genuine, will do just that. It not only adds instant visual interest, but it creates a romantic and picturesque atmosphere too.

We have two large windows on our exterior that would be great for an iron railing. I think the addition of these balconies not only enhances the architectural beauty of the house but also provides a unique and stylish element that sets it apart from others. They may not work for every home style, but it’s a great way to embrace the charm of Newport’s architectural style!

3. A Lamp Post Is Style As Much as Function

Lamp posts are not just a practical way to light up your outdoor spaces. They also add a touch of charm and classic style to your home’s exterior as well. Gas lanterns and lamp posts were a popular light source dating back all the way to the 18th century, and incorporating this traditional style instantly provides a sense of history to your home.

One of the ways I want to use lamp posts or lanterns is by anchoring or lining my driveway with them. Not only will they provide great lighting for the area, but they also create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The soft glow from the lamp posts creates a magical ambiance, reminiscent of the charming streets of Newport at night.

You could also use lamp posts in your backyard to create a cozy and intimate space for outdoor gatherings. The soft lighting from the lamp post adds a romantic touch, perfect for enjoying a glass of wine or a good book under the stars!

4. A Gate Takes Your Home to the Next Level

When it comes to adding a touch of elegance and charm to your home’s exterior, few things can rival the beauty of iron gates. Newport had no shortage of gate inspiration and even though I don’t have a grand mansion, I instantly thought of how I could incorporate this design element into my own home. Though you may not need a gate, the intricate detailing and timeless appeal of iron gates can benefit your home exterior.

One of the ways you could incorporate iron gates into your home is by installing a beautiful wrought iron gate at the entrance of your garden. This not only adds a touch of sophistication but also creates a sense of privacy and security.

To make a statement and create an enchanting atmosphere, you could install a gate on your driveway. For something more feasible, an arbor over the pathway to your front door would look charming complemented with an iron gate. Of course, this wouldn’t be a quick, easy, or inexpensive project, but if it fits your home style, it can be a transformative detail!

5. Think Outside the Box When It Comes to Your Driveway

There is certainly nothing wrong with a plain concrete driveway, but if you’re looking to stray from the traditional concrete look and try something with a bit more character, there are so many different things you could do. Why not think outside the box and have a custom-feeling driveway that speaks to the style of your home?

Inspired by the charming coastal town of Newport, pavers are just one popular idea. Plus, pavers come in many different shapes, sizes, and colors, allowing you to create a truly custom look. Of course, more custom options cost more money, so one feasible idea is to balance the style and cost by doing a concrete driveway with a paver border.

Whether it’s pavers, concrete with a paver border, brick, or pea gravel, all of these driveway ideas go a long way in making your home feel custom to you!

6. Embrace Window Grid Patterns

One of the design elements that I absolutely adore about Newport homes is the stunning window grid patterns found throughout the town. These patterns, whether intricate or simple, add history and visual interest to any home.

On our exterior, we opted for window grids that mimic the timeless look found in Newport’s historic homes. The grids not only enhance the architectural appeal of the windows but also create a sense of symmetry and balance in the space.

It’s not too late to incorporate window grid patterns into your home if you haven’t already. Here’s how you can add this unique and stylish design element without buying new windows: How I Made My Windows Look 10x Better in Less Than 25 Minutes

7. Set Up Stylish Seating Areas To Enjoy the View

Creating stylish seating areas at home is essential for enjoying the beautiful views that Newport has to offer. But even if you don’t have the same balcony overlooking the ocean or get to peer over a cliffside, why not set up a seating area that best takes advantage of what views you do have?

Whether your view is an ocean (lucky), trees, a modest garden, or a pretty view you have to create yourself, setting up these areas can enhance your design aesthetic and provide a serene space to relax. I loved seeing all the different ways you could set up a relaxing moment, and it inspired me to find several areas at my home to create different seating arrangements.

When setting up your seating area, arrange the furniture to maximize the view. Position chairs or sofas facing the window or balcony so you can easily gaze outside and take in the beauty of nature. If you have a small space, consider using folding chairs or benches that can be easily stored when not in use.

Adirondack chairs are a popular coastal pick, but add a personal touch to your space by choosing the seating that best represents your style, whether it’s a European bistro chair, a traditional wicker chair, or something completely different.

8. Vintage Furniture Never Goes Out of Style

Whether it was velvet furniture with fringe or a solid wood cupboard with inset doors, it was clear that vintage furniture never goes out of style. Wood pieces bring a sense of history and nostalgia to a space, and I’m not shying away from incorporating my thrifted furniture into my home.

What I love most about vintage furniture is its ability to tell a story. Every scratch, every worn spot, and every bit of patina has a tale to tell. It adds personality and depth to a home, making it feel lived-in and loved.

Whether it’s a vintage dresser, an accent chair, or a collection of vintage art, incorporating vintage furniture and decor pieces into your home is a way to express your individual style and create a space that is truly unique.

9. Landscaping Really Matters

Whether it’s simple with a few manicured boxwood bushes or a complex layered design, Newport reminded me how landscaping plays a crucial role in creating a truly stunning and inviting home.

The beautifully manicured gardens and well-maintained landscapes in Newport have reassured me that it’s worth the investment to put extra care and thought into my own landscaping – because it’s an investment, for sure!

But landscaping is more than just a way to beautify the exterior of a home. It creates a sense of harmony and tranquility that can be felt as soon as you step foot onto the property. By adding carefully chosen planters and layers of different plants, you can create texture and visual interest that mirrors the stunning gardens of Newport.

10. A Grandmillennial Style Works

If it was popular then and it’s popular now, then it’s clear that this style never really went out, it just gets rediscovered and popular again, as is the way of the trend cycle. A grandmillenial style is a “granny chic” look and combines the classic elegance of traditional design with vibrant colors and patterns.

To achieve a grandmillennial style, start by incorporating traditional furniture pieces with intricate detailing and classic silhouettes. Look for pieces with vintage-inspired fabrics, such as floral prints or chintz, to add a touch of nostalgia to your space. Mixing and matching different patterns and colors creates a layered and eclectic look.

When it comes to decor, embrace traditional elements such as chinoiserie, toile, and needlepoint. These vintage-inspired pieces will add a sense of charm and whimsy to your space.

11. Arches Make a Beautiful Impact

Arches are not just for your exterior and can be incorporated in more ways than you think. If you’re not building or renovating your home and don’t have the option to use them on the exterior, they can be created inside by arching a square hallway, or even incorporated by your use of decor and finishes.

One of the ways I incorporated arches into my home was by opting for an arched doorway for a beautiful and graceful entrance. The curved shape of the arches adds visual interest and architectural beauty, making a statement!

12. Sconces Can Go in Every Room

Living room? Of course. Library? Perfect. Bathroom? Still yes! From the kitchen to the dining room, sconces can be used to create a warm and inviting ambiance. They can be placed on the walls or above a bar or countertop to provide task lighting and add a stylish touch to the space.

In bathrooms, they can be placed on either side of the mirror to provide lighting for getting ready in the morning. Even better, they add a touch of sophistication and make the space feel more luxurious. Incorporating sconces into every room of your home allows you to create a cohesive and well-designed aesthetic.

Though we’ve hardwired 8 sconces in our home, nowadays there are plenty of battery-operated options, allowing you to get the look at a fraction of the cost.

13. Timeless Kitchen Materials Are Well, Timeless

A kitchen renovation is a big enough deal and expense that when you design it, you don’t want it to go out of style in a few years. That’s why it’s important to choose materials that not only look beautiful but also stand the test of time.

The mansions of Newport reminded me of the importance of selecting timeless kitchen materials that will never go out of style. Things like white tile, copper, natural surface materials, solid wood, and classic cabinetry all bring elegance and sophistication to any kitchen – while still feeling homey and lived-in.

Following Newport’s appreciation for classic design elements can help you create a kitchen that is not only beautiful but also functional and durable!

14. Don’t Be Afraid To Glam Up the Bathroom

The bathroom may be the last place you think to glam up. After all, some erm, dirty business happens in there. But whether you share the room with guests, children, or it’s a private oasis, why not make this hard-working room a place you enjoy being in?

You may think there’s not much to be done, but think again! To add a touch of glamour to your bathroom, start with the fixtures. Opt for sleek and elegant faucets and showerheads in a stylish finish like polished chrome, brass, or brushed nickel. Consider adding a statement piece, such as a freestanding bathtub or a luxurious vanity, to create a focal point in the room.

Don’t forget about the mirrors, which can add both functionality and style to your bathroom. Choose a statement mirror with a decorative frame to elevate the overall aesthetic. And you know what looks great next to a mirror? A stunning sconce or vanity light.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to play with textures and materials. Consider adding a touch of luxury with marble countertops or a glossy white backsplash. Incorporate plush towels, fresh flowers, and an oriental rug to create a cozy and comfortable feel.

These are all design elements I’m including in my own space, and by glamming up the bathroom, it’s transformed it into a stylish and inviting space that l love spending time in.

15. Seek Out Natural Materials (Marble Is Not the Worst Thing)

A lot of people are hesitant to incorporate natural materials into their homes, opting for LVP over wood flooring and manmade materials instead of marble.

Now if it’s a budget matter, that’s a different thing, and there is certainly a time and place to choose a faux material over the genuine one (I don’t have all “real” things), however, if it’s just coming from a fear of “the real thing”, there are many misconceptions out there that real materials, such as marble or wood are high-maintenance or too expensive.

Some of the prices are actually comparable, or not far too drastic in comparison. And if you’re okay with a little patina, then natural materials are not just something of the past. They have the power to transform any space into a timeless and elegant home now. If they work in these homes from the 1800s and still look good, then they can work for you!

Whether you incorporate one or all of these design inspiration ideas, each element has contributed to a space that reflects the timeless beauty of Newport. And since the Newport mansions have gathered a lot of their inspiration from Europe, you are channeling the timeless beauty from all around the world.

Flights booked to the Dominican Republic? Check! Resort or Airbnb booked? Check! Now what’s left on the to-do list is to think about what to pack for a Dominican Republic trip. Packing for a vacation can sometimes be a stressful task and no one wants to be 48 hours before a flight still unsure what to bring. Lucky for you, I just returned from the Dominican Republic and I’m sharing ideas on what to bring so you can have your packing list sorted and have peace of mind as you count down the days till your trip! Scroll on to find essential items for your Caribbean vacation.

Miscellaneous Items

The good news is that packing for the DR is not much different than packing for any other tropical vacation. The first thing to do is to sort out your miscellaneous items.

This includes important items like travel documents, toiletries, electronics, and necessities. It’s a good idea to get this stuff out of the way first because you don’t want to get to the airport and realize you forgot your passport!

Here’s a general idea of what to bring and I’ll star (*) the items I ended up using during my time there.

  • Passport *
  • Credit Cards *
  • Medical Insurance
  • Travel Insurance
  • Airpods/headphones * (These are a must-have when traveling. Listen to some podcasts or favorite songs on your flight.)
  • Insect Repellent/Insect Bite Relief Cream* – (You could always purchase some while you’re there, but yes, you’ll want this!)
  • Medical/First Aid Kit
  • Reusable Water Bottle * – (Once again, you can purchase water bottles while you’re there, but you do not want to drink the water that comes out of the faucet.)
  • Mobile Phone *
  • Laptop
  • Chargers *

You don’t need a travel adapter as your plugs will fit. You could bring an umbrella to be safe, but for the most part, any rain that does come is usually over in minutes. Also, you don’t need to bring any beach towels as your resort, hotel, or Airbnb should provide those.

Beauty/ Toiletries:

No international travel packing list is complete without some beauty items or toiletries! You’ll want to have your favorite beauty essentials to have your skin looking and feeling great throughout your vacation.

  • Cleanser – Taking a bottle of cleanser on your summer trip is a must. The Bioderma micellar water is a great idea because it works great as both a cleanser and makeup remover.
  • SPF – You’re going to spend a lot of time outside, so having some extra sunscreen is so important. It’s recommended that you use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to shield your skin.
  • Lip Balm – While carrying around lip balm is needed during everyday life, it’s especially important when traveling to hot climates. Keep your lips nourished with a high-quality lip balm.
  • Self-Tanner – This is completely optional, but if you need an extra summer glow, a self-tanner is a great product to pack.
  • Personal Toiletries – This includes a toothbrush, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, etc
  • Pain Relief Medications
  • Hydrating Spray – Give your skin a burst of hydration at the beach with a face mist. Picking a hydrating mist with amino acids can help to strengthen the barrier of your skin.
  • Mascara – When you want to get a little dolled up for a vacation date night, you’ll want some mascara to add volume to your lashes.
  • Eyebrow Gel – Keep your eyebrows looking natural for your beach days with the help of eyebrow gel.
  • Moisturizer – Walking around with dry skin on vacation is a big no-no. Keep your skin looking fresh and hydrated with a moisturizer.
  • Concealer – Hide the eyebags from jet lag with a lightweight concealer.
  • Foundation – If you are a little insecure about your skin (and we’ve all been there), then packing a lightweight foundation may be a good idea if it will make you feel more confident.
  • Shampoo and Conditioner – Wash out the pool chlorine and beach sand from your hair with an effective shampoo and conditioner.
  • Hair Ties – Hair ties always get easily misplaced so having spares in your bag is a good idea!

Entertainment

  • A Good Book (or three) – Not into plane movies? Pack a good book. Or several. Depending on where you’re flying from, you may have plenty of time to catch up on some reading.
  • Magazines – We all love flipping through a new magazine. And the best thing is that your magazine can double as a good photo prop for your beach flatlay pictures too! Put it next to some fresh fruits, a beach bag, and sunglasses.
  • iPad – Not just for yourself, but it’s a great gadget if you’re traveling with toddlers too since it will keep them busy on the flight and at restaurants.
  • Notebook and Pen – If you’re more of a dreamer, planner, and doodler.
  • Camera – For pictures, of course. If you want to make taking pictures even more fun, check out an instant camera!

Clothes, Shoes & Accessories

I get it – this is undeniably one of the most important parts of your packing list! After all, it’s hard to have the best time on vacation when you’ve packed the wrong clothes.

You need to pack appropriate clothing for your trip to keep you comfortable and chic. Casual clothes are a must for your Caribbean vacation. But if your travel plans include visiting upscale restaurants, you will want some cute, breezy dresses too.

  • Classic Bathing Suit – Look chic as you swim in the clear waters by dressing up in a timeless bathing suit. You can’t go wrong with black or white, but for a color option, red will pop against the turquoise waters.
  • Sarong/Beach Cover-Up – Pair your bikini with a sarong to elevate the look of your vacation outfit. Other ideas include a linen button-down shirt, oversized crochet shirt, or maxi dress. Coverups are great for wearing from the beach to the beach bar too.
  • Tank Tops – The strong sun and warm weather will make you want to live in tank tops all day! These can be dressed up or down, depending on the rest of your look.
  • A Light Jacket – Once the sun sets, you’re going to want a light jacket to get you through the night. I didn’t need anything heavier than a button-down or light cardigan.
  • Sun Hat – This is a vacation must-have to shield you from the sun in style!
  • Sun dresses- Is it really a vacation without a sun dress? Whether you opt for a little white dress, maxi polka dot dress, or strappy linen dress, your suitcase isn’t complete without a few options.
  • Shoes – You don’t need much! Throw a pair of cute sandals and comfortable sneakers into your suitcase. If you want to dress up for dinner, consider bringing a pair of strappy block heels.
  • Straw Bag – This packing list would not be complete without a straw bag. It will look great with all your vacation outfits!

Lastly, bring some more summer wardrobe staples to mix and match. This includes linen pants, linen shirts, shorts, basic t-shirts, simple jewelry, and sunglasses.

One of the joys of traveling is getting to wear chic airplane outfits. I can’t be the only one who thinks walking around the airport wearing stylish travel clothes makes the entire experience so much more enjoyable. Even better? Knowing that when you arrive at your holiday destination, you don’t need to change immediately. Your chic airplane outfit can still be fashionable enough to wear when exploring the hotel or city.

So, how exactly does one create chic airplane outfits? We’ll show you how with these best travel outfit combinations below. Whether you’re going on long-haul flights or short flights, these styling ideas are great to wear when boarding a plane. Get your passport and plane ticket ready and keep reading!

1. striped shirt + wide-leg joggers + socks and loafers + tote bag

shirt | joggers | socks | loafers | bag

This first travel look will make you feel like you’re about to travel in first class. The striped shirt is a style staple for a good reason; it will make your whole look appear effortlessly pulled together. And in terms of comfort, the soft cotton long sleeves will keep you feeling good on long flights.

The next piece to style with your striped shirt is these off-white joggers. I think we can all agree that joggers are a travel essential – especially jogger designs without sayings or graphics.

Give your outfit a sophisticated high fashion touch with loafers. They are one of the best shoes to wear for a chic air travel look. Complete this perfect travel outfit with a black tote bag to carry all your travel essentials and, of course, add a dose of class to your style!

2. trench coat + button-down + leggings + sneakers + tote bag + baseball cap

Ready for takeoff? Keep things comfortable by wearing black leggings. The stretch fabric is ideal for a long-distance flight and the style is versatile. Pair it with a white button-down shirt for a chic business casual look.

Normally, you might style your leggings with a hoodie, but for a chic update, pair them with a trench coat instead! This outerwear has a more put-together look and is great for keeping you warm in the airplane cabin.

As for the shoes? Slip on a classic pair of white sneakers that have a chic aesthetic and lastly, accessorize with a tote bag.

Look irresistibly chic as you stand next to your carry-on luggage by trying this third outfit idea. The neutral colors are a good choice when you are going on a beach vacation because the beige hues scream sandy beach vibes.

For a chic style aesthetic, button up a cardigan and layer on a scarf. As we mentioned earlier, joggers are a style must-have when traveling and for when you want to be comfortable (they’re better than sweats).

Take the outfit up a notch by accessorizing with cool and chic pieces like a beige baseball cap and white sneakers.

4. two-piece set + oversized blazer + sneakers + tote bag + sunglasses

chic airplane outfit

blazer | two-piece set | sneakers | bag | sunglasses

Two-piece sets are chic for altitude cruising. Our favorite part about these sets is that they are easy to throw on. So if you want to have a fuss-free morning when heading to the airport, this is the set to wear.

The slate color is versatile and cool to wear with other neutrals like this black oversized blazer. The blazer oozes sophistication while still prioritizing warmth and comfort (no onboard air-conditioning is no match for this blazer!).

Skip the fussy shoes and pair your chic airplane outfit with black and white sneakers. Not only will standing in line be comfortable, but it will also be the perfect backdrop when you’re taking those cool passport pictures.

For an off-duty model look, accessorize with black sunglasses. Another highlight of wearing sunglasses at the airport is you can hide how jetlagged you are. Complete your airport outfit with this timeless tote bag (or one like it). Thanks to its practical size and chic look, it is the ultimate getaway accessory. Slip it on your suitcase for easy travel. Overall, this look is the right balance between style and comfort.

5. striped sweater + pull-on pants + scarf + flats

chic travel outfit

sweater | scarf | flats | eye mask | pants

This fifth outfit just screams, “I’ve got a long-haul flight to Paris!” So if you are jetting off to the City of Lights, this is the airplane outfit to wear. Start your look with a Breton shirt to channel your inner Parisian. First worn by the French Navy, and now a wardrobe essential for French women.

The best pair of pants to style with this top are pull-on pants. The silhouette is flowy and not restrictive to wear when going on a long journey. Plus, since they are pull-on pants, you can easily pull them off when you’ve arrived at your destination.

Accessorize your outfit with a beige or camel oversized scarf – it is the perfect layering piece, especially when boarding a plane. Get some shut-eye most fashionably by slipping on an eye mask. And finally, look French-girl ready by wearing black ballet flats.

6. sweatshirt + leggings + coat + ankle boots

chic travel outfit

boots | leggings | sweatshirt | coat | bag

Master chic airport dressing by elevating wardrobe heroes like a sweatshirt with a long coat. A camel coat is nothing short of stylish. Plus, this outerwear is more than a chic piece – it doubles as an airport layer since the plane can be pretty cold.

Long travel days call for some easy-to-wear pants like leggings. You honestly can’t go wrong with leggings – they are streamlined, comfortable, and can look put together. To take your outfit up a notch, look for a pair like these that have a crease front with piping detail. It’s subtle, but this little detail makes them look more like pants.

For a sturdy and practical shoe choice, choose black ankle boots to pair with your outfit. Those, paired with a chain crossbody bag, gives your outfit an effortlessly fashionable finish.

7. matching lounge set + slides + duffle bag

chic travel outfit

crinkle shirt | crinkle pants | slides | bag | eye mask

Instead of wearing your pajamas to the airport, wear this lounge set instead. They are just as comfortable as pajamas but look 10x chicer. You will easily go from the airport to your hotel room in style with this look. The relaxed fit and crinkle detail is perfect.

Slip on some slipper slides. Not only are they comfortable shoes to get you from gate to gate, but they are undeniably chic. To look like you are about to get on business class, carry this luxe personalized duffle bag. And finally, you’ll need an eye mask to match your lounge set and make traveling extra cozy.

8. basic tee + flared pants + oversized blazer + hat + sneakers + tote bag

chic travel outfit

hat | top | sneakers | blazer | pants | bag | sunglasses

Going on a business trip? This is the best outfit to get you from the airport to the board meeting (with a few different styling swaps when you get there). Copy this look by giving your basic tee a business touch by layering on a blazer. Throw on some flared pants to give your body some shape and your outfit a high-fashion look.

Add a dose of a casual yet chic vibe by accessorizing with a baseball cap and chunky sneakers. And finally, complete your outfit with business-ready sunglasses and a tote bag. Then when it’s time to get to your business meeting, swap the sneakers for loafers and remove the hat.

In just a few days, our whole family (plus my sister-in-law for extra help!) will be heading to the Dominican Republic for a long-anticipated beach trip. Last month, Titus and I had a free long weekend and took a solo trip to Florida and though that was a nice time, this DR trip was the big one we’ve really been looking forward to!

We’re excited to be in 80-degree tropical weather, go sightseeing, and hang out at the pool at our Airbnb. My 4-year-old has been packing his little backpack during his quiet time for a few weeks now! So far we’ve got books, toy cars, Vitamin C drops, and tissues. Not bad, right? Needless to say, we’re all excited.

And part of the excitement for me is planning out things to wear not just for myself, but for the whole family. At the time of writing this, I’m not officially packed, but I went through my summer wardrobe and it’s all sitting on top of the suitcase. So that counts for something, right?

If you’re in a beach state of mind or have an upcoming beach vacation that you want ideas for, here’s a peek at what I’m bringing (some new, some old) to the Punta Cana area in the Dominican Republic. As well as things I picked up for the boys in my life.

I’m keeping my minimalistic vacation style, but also bringing a few more fun prints and colors to fit the environment and occasion.

Most of the picks below are just inspirational. Titus didn’t want anything new! But this is the vacation style for a man I would go for.

Consider this post inspiration. When I get back, I’ll do an official DR packing list once I know what worked and what didn’t. In the meantime, get your fashion guide to Tulum next: What to Wear in Tulum | Fashion Guide

We just returned from Marco Island, Florida and it’s always a bit of a bummer to trade the view of sun and beach for snow and gray clouds. We’re always having the conversation about eventually moving to a warmer climate, but for now, planning mini getaways and beach vacations are what gets us through these long winters. I know that not everyone gets the chance to travel, so I’m thankful that we have the opportunities and support to make kid-free trips happen!

I was very hands-off planning for this mini getaway trip to Marco Island. The point of this trip was to be a break after a busy end of the year with my work, as well as a refresh for the new year.

Why Marco Island? Well, admittedly, there was not much of a reason Titus chose this specific place. He chose it because it was the warmest spot we could get to with a direct flight (and a little driving) from our small airport.

Though I had never heard of Marco Island before, it ended up being a very charming place that we loved! Because the point of this was to relax, I didn’t even bring out my camera or post to Instagram, but I did capture moments on my phone!

We stayed at the Hilton Marco Island Beach Resort and Spa and upgraded to get a poolside room. Now there’s a luxury I didn’t even know I needed!

We had direct access to the pool from our room and it’s so nice and convenient to walk straight to the pool instead of having to travel throughout the hotel, take the elevator in a wet swimsuit, etc. Of course, it’s just that, a luxury, but I didn’t know I would like it so much.

And you would think it’d be noisy being by the pool, but it wasn’t for us. But the demographic at our hotel was very much families, couples, and older travelers. Maybe the time of year, such as spring break, would affect that.

We could see when the hot tub was empty too, so we were able to have it to ourselves for a while which was nice.

So I had planned a bunch of outfits a few weeks prior but the weather shifted drastically a few days before we were meant to leave and my previously picked outfits would have been too bare.

I didn’t have the mental energy to think of new things to wear (Titus was also out of state and I was solo parenting for a bit), so Titus just threw a bunch of things into a suitcase for me and I styled them as I went along!

I was actually pretty happy with my outfits. This is why I’m always talking about the benefits of a curated capsule wardrobe. With versatile pieces, you could throw a bunch of things into a suitcase and still come out with cute looks!

Check out my How to Build a Wardrobe From Scratch eBook to get the step-by-step process on how to create this type of wardrobe!

And though the weather wasn’t hot by any means, the sun still felt nice and strong when laying by the pool. That’s all I wanted so I was pleased. And we even got some sun!

Because we were there for only a short amount of time, we didn’t plan any activities or excursions. We laid by the pool, walked around the island, drove around and looked at houses, and went out to eat. That’s a pretty ideal itinerary for a few days if you ask me!

Oh, and to offset laying around and eating, we walked along the beach and picked up shells (balance, right?). Marco Island is known for its shells and the beautiful white sand had plenty of these pretty treasures.

I personally am a big fan of shorter trips. Less time there equals less guilt about eating unhealthy, paying resort prices, or just doing nothing for days. Okay, so maybe I should just work on my mental health and guilt, but a trip doesn’t have to be long or exotic to be great!

Seize the opportunities you have to take a break, whether that’s a long weekend away to a warmer place or a night off and getting take out from your favorite restaurant.

I’m lucky that we’re a family that all likes to travel. My 1-year-old will frequently hand me his shoes because he wants to leave the house and my 4-year-old will ask me when we’re going to go somewhere because he’s “never been anywhere before” haha. (He really means “today” and we’re working on the right language to express time.)

Thankfully, my kiddos are pretty flexible with their routine, so if we have the opportunity to go somewhere to spend some family time we’re going to take it. We’ve been embracing the idea of a staycation (or not traveling very far) lately.

Living in a cramped rental in the middle of everything including a busy college has us craving peace and quiet whenever we can get it. And when you feel pretty tapped out, the thought of getting everyone on a plane (even for a sunny getaway) sounds so not worth it.

Instead, recently we took advantage of a free weekend and booked a stay at a woodsy cabin nearby. I’m thankful that we get these opportunities to reset, admire God’s creation, and have space to let our boys run wild!

Our Airbnb greeted us with a long private driveway.

After getting settled in, I explored the property with my camera. My love for photography started out with capturing nature and I know my heart will always find a feeling of peace in doing just that.

The property included a lake. Too cold to swim, but just right for looking at!

Progress on our custom build is slow and that can be discouraging at times. But all I have to do is remind myself that one day I’ll get to walk around the woods capturing pictures of nature, except it will be on my land and I won’t have to “escape” to get it. That’s when the gratitude sinks in.

Mmm, you can almost smell that bacon. Getaways are even better when I don’t have to make breakfast!

Captured: Father and son having a cozy moment by the fire.

In the slow afternoon, we made up our own version of Candy Land.

As we waited for our bonfire to start blazing, we took a family walk around the property.

And of course, I had to take some pictures with my boys. Who remembers when Will was born? Can you believe how old he looks now?

Being a boy mom is all kinds of special.

Once they got tired of taking pictures, we had dinner by the fire. Macaroni as requested!

A weekend never seems like enough time, especially when you don’t want the time to end.

I forgot my tripod and I didn’t coordinate outfits (though it actually looks pretty decent), but I managed to snap a family photo. Whether it’s “picture perfect” or not, I’ve never regretted capturing these moments.

My boys.

Our last family trip was to Mexico and we’re hoping our next big family trip will be to the South of France next year. But I’m learning that not everything needs to be big. Some of the best trips are the small ones.
